An Early Study May Hold Promise for Those with Essential Tremor
A double-blind study published in Nature Communications was conducted on a small group of people with Essential Tremor (ET) using a technique called Transcranial Static Magnetic Field Stimulation (tSMS) to determine whether tremors could be temporarily reduced. What is tSMS Transcranial Static Magnetic Field Stimulation targets the Primary Motor Cortex with a powerful neodymium magnet, held in place with a helmet-type device, targeting the part of the brain that controls hand movement.

The Brain’s Network Collapse: A New Study Reveals a Shared Pathway Across Neurodegenerative Diseases
A significant study in Nature Communications (2025) is changing how scientists interpret Alzheimer’s disease, frontotemporal dementia, and similar disorders. Rather than seeing each condition as separate issues affecting specific brain areas, the research indicates a more interconnected process: the progressive breakdown of the brain’s large-scale communication networks. The research team analyzed MRI scans from 221 patients across Alzheimer’s disease, frontotemporal dementia (FTD), corticobasal syndrome (CBS), and several forms of primary progressive aphasia (PPA).

OSA and Parkinson’s: New Findings from Veterans Study
A new study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association links Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) with an increased risk of Parkinson’s disease, based on research involving more than 11 million military veterans. The data came from patients' electronic health records (EHRs) provided by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) health system spanning from 1999 to 2022. Researchers analyzed medical histories and health information, looking for common patterns.

AbbVie Submits NDA for Tavapadon: A New Hope for Parkinson’s Patients
The biopharmaceutical company, AbbVie, submitted a New Drug Application (NDA) to the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) for Tavapadon, a new drug targeting the D1 and D5 dopamine receptors that are involved in movement for Parkinson’s patients. The controlled boost will help improve movement, giving Parkinson’s patients smoother motor function and improved coordination. The ‘TEMPO’ program conducted by AbbVie was divided into four studies: a ‘Fixed Dose,’ a ‘Flexible Dose,’ ‘Parkinson’s with Motor Fluctuations,(patients already on levodopa), and a ‘long-term open-label extension (to study safety and durability).’
