The beauty of decay. This might be the last Stomp Puffball we see this season and is just about done. The dark spots are large holes and the head is sagging and starting to collapse with faint puffs.

A big Stomp Puffball still standing upright but well past its prime. Large holes on the sides and head omit tiny puffs of spores for the next generation. They can be found on the ground in many forests or on downed trees around Ireland, the UK and Europe. I believe they're present in North America too.

Good morning. I got out into the mountains and forests yesterday, wasn't too cold. Grey, drab weather though. So going back to last Spring for a blue sky and bit of colour on the ground.

A view from the hiking path above Glendalough upper lake. You can see the hiking path that leads up from the lake and the bridge nearby crossing the Glencalo River. Far below you can see where the river flows into the upper lake. Steep hills on either side where a glacier cut through here a few million years ago. This hike takes you up around the ridge of the hills to the right and there are other trails that lead over the hills to the left. Doing both is quite an adventure.

Good morning. Running low on photos, too cold to spend much time in the mountains. This was during Christmas break. I had to disappear for a few hours of calm, so I hiked and sat with the trees. No better place to be.
