The energy some people are using to defend him is energy that COULD be used to find a good alternative with plenty of time to spare.

Oooh that's fair. Yeah I agree with ya as far as Platner goes. Hope he improves as a person, everyone deserves redemption.
But nobody deserves a political office and I prefer my candidates to not be ex-Blackwater with Nazi tats unless fighting it has already openly been their life's work for years.

Cuomo is closer to that especially since he specifically helmed the IBC to keep Dems from having actual power in Albany. A thing which he oddly doesn't get much criticism from the establishment for.

Mamdani has a record already and this is highly consistent with it.
Always a chance this doesn't work out well but it's notable that "people are so starved for actual progressives the grifters have figured out running as one helps them win races" is still an argument for more leftists running.

The cutoff for signing up for Maine primaries is March. Why is everyone acting like it has to be Platner or Mills? There's more time to find and run a good progressive candidate than most countries take for their entire elections.
