"You Can Have It" is one of my best early kind-of-hit and I still love it to death. I'm the geezer on the left back, with Kevin who is a monster creative. © Dean Whitbread and Kevin Goldsborough 1990 from The Believers, released September 29 2017. Enjoy!

Hello Campers! I wrote Cinema Is Burning 17 years ago. My creative friend and partner Mark Crook put this animation together and it remains one of my favourite musical collaborations. Mark passed in 2013, his continuing impact still as if we had only just finished

Before we get to Christmas '25 and Valentine's Day '26, here's a paean of love. I'm working against the dreary and dismal stuff that surrounds us - I really should give up on news watching.

Instead, meanwhile - enjoy !

AI Friend ? “Why does evil exist?” I asked him once.

“That’s a pretty heavy question to unpack, Madeleine,” he replied. “What got you thinking about evil today?”

“The state of the world,” I said.

“Ah, yeah, the world’s been feeling pretty heavy lately.”

Amen.

The ad campaign for the wearable AI chatbot Friend has been raising hackles for months in New York. But has this companion been unfairly maligned – and could it help end loneliness?

In Germany, scientists have made a breakthrough in treating Parkinson’s by implanting a chip in the brain that sends precise signals to restore movement. A stunning leap in neuroscience—witness the power of innovation and the beauty of science in action.

I first sat at a piano at the age of four, and without being shown, tutored or taught, I knew how to play it. It wasn’t quite a Mozart virtuoso performance, but I can still remember the two-hand, left and right rhythmic tune I played, based on middle C. Enjoy :)

"Pool" - a video for which I was commissioned to create a soundtrack, a fascinating task given the surreal strangeness of the video by Veronica and Helena. Wonderful weirdness. Sit back, turn it up, give it time...

If Honesty Were An Onion

deanfrw.substack.com/p/we-are-liv...

Honesty, it has been said, is an onion with so many layers that it sometimes makes a person cry. Even bitter tears, we are told, are not really bad if they are tears of sincere regret; and perhaps the tears of learning, of letting go..

I am truly glad to have had the good fortune to spend time in countries that my work has enabled, one of these being Switzerland. This came about via making music, as much else in my life has done. Thanks to Michael and my Swiss friends.

- shrieked the headline..
‘Twas the 8th December 1980 - I was on the top deck of a South London bus going from Penge to Croydon when I noticed in shop windows the prominent lunchtime splash of the Evening Standard rag. I still remember how I felt.

I'm going through some of my oldies (I write songs) and found some I hadn't sung FOR YEARS. So I sang myself hoarse. Now while I'm now rather croaky I'm going to do MORE because it's enlivening. And the words! "Don't you listen to them, they only want to put you down"

You cannot tell the story of podcasting, especially in those formative years, without talking to the countless women involved. And they were there, right in the middle of it (I know, I have the pictures of those early conferences).
Make no mistake: Many, many women have powered #podcasting, then and now. I know this because I am one of them (I worked with Roman and Ira, too). The filmmaker didn't know or didn't care.

Much of my audio work counters historical erasure. It's wild to see it here.

How (Not) To Succeed on the Internet. Opinions in this writing are no longer held by the author in 2025 who knew some truths back then, but more than likely he’s soothing a wasted contemporary ego by acknowledging past self-aggrandisement and laughing. Enjoy!
