Might write a review. The glowing review consensus is really troubling. I can understand those reviews from people who just want an action film (though there are plot gaps there too), but politically it's nonsense.
dgrdon.bsky.social
At its core it's a Hollywood action film. It also tries to be a profound film about violent revolution, but that aspect is sloppy, ungrounded and shallow.

And from the start it is incredibly unrealistic. Only one person guarding a US immigration detention facility? Come on.
dgrdon.bsky.social
Hot take: One Battle After Another is actually really bad. It is set in a completely unrealistic version of the USA, it misleads about how power and policing actually work, and the representation of activism is insulting to social movements past and present. It's a fantasy film. 🧵

Enbridge execs have been boasting to shareholders they plan to return $40-$45 billion to them over the next five years supported by gas expansions across the continent. Ontario in particular is a cash cow where they have an opportunity to "over earn."

The government is reducing service standards and Canada Post’s biggest advantage: its nationwide network.

This plan is about cutting back the postal service instead of investing to give it new revenue tools through things like postal banking. It’s shameful.

One way to read Lowan's victory is that progressives are hungry for bold change. We saw this in New York City, we've now seen this in the BC Greens, and as the federal NDP kicks off its leadership race this is clearly how the political winds are blowing.

Would be good see an expert assessment of its accuracy. Based on what I've read about the Arab Revolts (which this film only covers the start of), it seems pretty accurate, like how divisions within Palestinian society were exploited and even created by the British and Zionists.
