Overheard: "The Charlatans, Stone Roses, Happy Mondays ... They all sound the same". Feel free to discuss.

AKA almost the entire "K" section of the second-hand CDs in Reckless Records, Islington circa 1998. People were disowning it almost as fast as Babylon Zoo.

I bought a Fray Bentos Mac & cheese pie for a 70s themed evening recently but our tin opener couldn't open it. Bizarrely for such a cheap product they recommend using relatively expensive branded ones.
Reverse of a Fray Bentos pie tin. Recommends using with a Brabantia or OXO branded tin opener.

Well, that certainly escalated. 🤷
eBay message exchange with person asking me to possible split a DVD bundle.

Them:
"Hi I was wondering if you would sell me the xxx on its own as its for my girlfriend she has all the others and thats the only one she needs she would be over the moon many thanks kind regards
Ben".

Me:
"Hi - you're the 4th person to ask this now! Though it's possible your girlfriend was one of the other 3 ... Essentially the same answer as I gave those I'm afraid; I'm in no particular rush to sell and am not looking to split them."

(cont.) Them:
"Sorry I have no idea what your talking about my girlfriend does not have an eBay account thats why I have asked so your assumptions are wrong very wrong if 4 people have ask for it and you dont want to spilt them up or in a rush to sell what's the point of putting them on and to clarif my other half is in a wheel chair and has no way of being able to type let alone have a account she loves xxxxx so please dont every jump to conclusions in the future or judge and one or there parnter it is not nice"

Very strong captain choice! Are you aware of the change this season, where you now get two of each chip? One to use by gameweek 19, after which you get a new one. I only found out the other day and so used the free hit this week (which included picking Sememyo, but not as captain).

I was ripping some CDs on an old laptop recently and had exactly that happen. I also recall there was an issue with copy protected CDs in Macs, as they would prevent eject from working.

And in the morning ...?

Have just discovered that my 16yo was unaware of the saying "Red sky at night, shepherds delight".
Reddish-pink clouds over Cambridge.

Flukily timed return to the scene of the crime. Feel unreasonably disappointed that Totally Wired 1 wasn't there. Plus some more #VinylSanta potentials that I haven't photographed.
Acid Jazz Totally Wired compilation LPs volumes 2-6. Assorted jazz/funk LPs. Galliano, Brand New Heavies, Herbie Mann, Quincy Jones, Jimmy Castor, Conjure, Wynton Marsalis.

107 days till Christmas Eve, which makes it roughly 100 shopping days for Vinyl Santa.

Start now and build up a little floor pile of goodies. It will make life much easier in December.

Weed out your duplicates and grab those charity shop classics when you can!

Horrible isn't it? Looks more like a self-financed album from a small-town 80s metal band.

Though this remains my favourite nasty reissue artwork.
Awful artwork on a reissue of the Zombies' Odessey & Oracle.

My 16yo has been asking for a copy of Transformer. Hit upon a naff looking reissue on eBay with bonus Berlin. No-one else bidded on it.
Lou Reed "Rock Galaxy" double LP. Album is actually Transformer and Berlin.

Ah, nice! It must have been the previous owner's favourite too as it's the roughest of the three.

Selected others. There was also some non-jazz not pictured as they have #VinylSanta potential.
Herbie Mann 'Memphis Underground' & 'At The Village Gate's LPs (plum Atlantic labels, not pictured), and Kenny Burrell Quartet 'Tender Gender' LP.

#NowPlaying from a better than average jazzy chazza (JazzChazz?) haul earlier this week. £1.50.
James Taylor Quartet 'Get Organized' LP.

Yay! I remember clocking it when I once had to go to a trade event at Olympia.

Pulp single cover I think. Possibly Common People?

I think Facebook's just trolling me now.
AI generated Facebook post claiming that Mick Jagger "was wrong all these years" after returning to visit Dartford. "I chased dreams across the world ... but everything that mattered was right here" he's quoted as saying, while apparently stood outside the modest brick house where he grew up. Image is of him sat outside a wooden building. Part of an AI image from a Facebook post about a "joint" Mick Jagger and the Rolling Stones tour, supposedly happening in 2026.

This is, or was, an actual photo of the Stones rather than AI generated slop but I think they've used AI to try and sharpen the image, which hasn't worked out well for those at the back ...
Photo of the Rolling Stones that's not quite as it seems ... Close up of Keith Richards, Bill Wyman and Mick Jagger with edited faces. An original version of the same photo available online.

The second most famous person I've seen in the Portland Arms, topped only by Macaulay Culkin when he got up to do a song with Adam Green! Also, agreed on The Minus 5.
Stage times for Luke Haines & Peter Buck / The Minus 5 at the Portland Arms.

Quite collectable IIRC. 💰

Completely get this as my daughter got into them when around 14 and that was the first record I bought her. Two years on, whenever we go anywhere she always buys more records than me. This weekend's purchase was Back To Front by Gilbert O'Sullivan (I didn't buy anything).
