Beliefs are like shoes. Mine fit me, not you, but that doesn't make your feet bad. Old shoes fall apart. New shoes need breaking in.

Reflecting a bit upon the Buddhist concepts which drew me to the practice so many years ago at this point. The second arrow is such a simple but profound idea. The first arrow cannot be dodged– there is suffering. That is truth. However, the second arrow, the anguish around the first arrow, can be.

Whether in dream state or seemingly awake, or whatever form of consciousness, the same principle applies, impermanent, not me, not mine. Don’t be impressed by any transient states. Most impressive is simply cutting off greed, hate & delusion, nothing more & nothing less.

Old age can leave us feeling irrelevant, as if the things we thought were important are just not important anymore, as if time has moved past us, much to our surprise and consternation. One more element of the dukkha nature of existence. All things change. All is impermanent. #dharma #dhamma

“Just as a fine, well-bred bull
yoked to a load,
enduring his load,
crushed
by the heavy burden,
doesn't throw down his yoke;
so, too, those who are filled with discernment
— as the ocean, with water —
don't look down on others.
This is nobility among beings.”
