Last week, City Council voted to make changes their encampment protocol that violate human rights.
So this morning, I introduced a letter at the Housing Rights Advisory Committee (HRAC) to challenge Council's unilateral authority to revise encampment policy: secure.toronto.ca/council/agen...

There is no "Three Strike Rule" on human rights, and I remind City Council that the provisions of the Waterloo ruling re: encampments don't extend to just any offer of shelter — it must be *truly* accessible shelter.
Councillor Fletcher's motion to prioritize encampment removals for those having a significant impact within 50 metres of a school, daycare, or playground, and to make a max of three offers of shelter, CARRIES 14-5.

In 2024, a draft report recommended that Peel Region's water/wastewater services transition from the region to a provincially regulated utility. With Doug Ford, the fear is that uploading water signals an intention to sell that public corporation to the private sector. Why else would they upload it?

As a professional DJ, I can say that outdoor raves are symptomatic of a lack of accessible third spaces to host a rave — either formal or informal. And on informal spaces, the red tape and expense in securing the necessary permits is ridiculously onerous. City policies created the problem.
My @thestar.com column this week: after Toronto Council requested reports on potential new rules for activities like raves, jet ski riding and pickleball, I’ve got an important reminder: it is a very good thing that people are having fun in the city.

This is shocking overreach: not only is the Ford government attempting to have a publicly elected official removed from office, they are also attempting to ban them from a future election — all in the name of "accountability."
This is not accountability. This is a vile assault on democracy.
