“The most important part of this was the working class moving as an organized bloc rather than individuals voicing their opposition into the wind… If this type of movement is to be built in the United States today, we could defeat the Trump administration before the next election.” #FightOligarchy

Since being elected, Trump has taken authoritarian actions at a scale which the U.S. has not seen in a long time, culminating in a recent series of federal military occupations. R&R member Diego examines their nature and what we must do to fight back.

We're out here at the Federal Courthouse with Portland's DSA City councilors to say no to the militarization of Portland!

It’s incredibly important to note that last week, these same political and business leaders were perpetuating those outdated narratives.

Oregon political and business leaders urged President Trump to stop “perpetuating outdated narratives” about Portland and not deploy federal troops there. Trump said the city is “war ravaged.”
It’s Trump vs. Portland Again in Clash Over Federal Troops
Some Oregon business and political leaders say the president is ‘perpetuating outdated narratives,’ about the city while federal authorities call for protection at a local ICE facility.

In both of these instances, regular working-class people would get organized, would push the regime to its limits, and shatter the strength it imagined it once had. A mass struggle based in the working-class with clear demands like these could bring Trump down before the next election. (8/12)

I think that while focusing on the fact that Portland doesn’t need a national guard is good for disarming propaganda, it should also be said that Trump doesn’t care. He’s sending in troops because Portland was one of the most resistant cities in 2020, and he wants to crush his opposition.

In the words of Leon Trotsky, "The king is king only because the interests and prejudices of millions of people are refracted through his person. When the flood of development sweeps away these interrelations, then the king appears to be only a washed-out man with a flabby lower lip." (9/12)

DSA will not bring an anti-poll tax-like campaign on its own, there needs to be a force pushing for that. Currently, that force is @reformandrevolution.org, who themselves have their roots in the Militant Tendency that built the anti-poll tax campaign. (11/12)

In the United States, the force most capable of replicating the France general strike and the anti-poll tax campaign is the Democratic Socialists of America. It is the largest socialist organization in the United States, and has been a major contributor to reforming the labor movement. (10/12)

In the UK, a struggle took place against Thatcher's poll tax. Marxists in the Labour Party would fight against the poll tax, setting up anti-poll tax unions, and ultimately be the thorn in Thatcher's side that caused her to resign. (7/12)

In France 1968, student protestors demonstrated against De Gaulle's education system. These protests received the support of the professors, and after government efforts to put down the protests, from the rest of the labor movement. (5/12)

Trump's regime isn't too far from Charles De Gaulle in France, or Margret Thatcher in the United Kingdom. While he is very right-wing and authoritarian, he is not invincible. The struggles against authoritarian regimes in France and the UK can give us a blueprint for how to fight Trump. (4/12)

The reality of the fact is that while you can write and call your senators, and you can vote for the "opposition" (which in cases like Idaho, isn't even really opposition), individual action isn't enough. The struggle against the Trump admin needs to be a struggle of the working-class. (3/12)
diegoforsocialism.bsky.social
If they ever say anything, they'll say vote Democratic in the next election. However, I get the feeling that most people today know that's not enough. While liberal writer for Democracy Docket not too long ago put together a "10 things you can do" article, it's not particularly helpful. (2/12)

A little while ago I saw a post from a Democratic politician with a lot of comments asking what regular people can do to fight the Trump administration. Very often whenever Democratic politicians are asked, they don't have a good answer. (1/12)

While the right-wing attempts to crack down on "hate speech", it's really worth remembering the hate they put into the world that they never had to face consequences for.
