Had the opportunity to meet Sree Raghunath Basak, president of Tangail Sari Traders Association at his studio in Pathrail, the birthplace of the Tangail Saree. He is also the leading figure in the case to claim the G.I. for the Tangail Saree of Bangladesh.
had dinner with my lovely jethima afterwards ❤️
Presented my research on religion and infrastructural development at brac university yesterday! Thank you to the lovely folks at ENH who organized and everyone who attended.
I’ll be presenting what I’ve been up to the last thirteen months at Brac next Wednesday!

Since I'm new here, can I re-up a project of which I am v proud? It's the complete Eric Hobsbawm Bibliography - a fully searchable database of all his published & unpublished works + a set of curated thematic lists to introduce select topics. It was a labour of love. Link: hobsbawm.shca.ed.ac.uk
have not even started writing my dissertation yet i know what i’ll wear to my defence and convocation
transferring incomprehensible handwriting from 1931 to my very own incomprehensible handwriting

Marked uptick in hate content from WB and BD in my FB feed. All promoted by the algorithm. Why is @facebook pushing hate on our feeds? I don't follow these profiles or pages.
Saw a Bengali saree influencer say "bengal subcontinent" and I will now be adopting this
my mother’s special achari khichuri 😋
don’t ask how much weight i’ve put on doing fieldwork
working out of the department of archaeology today
Reminds me very much also of both Satyajit Ray and Soumitra Chatterjee accepting the Legion of Honour in Bengali style dhuti-panjabi
He was featured in Vogue India shortly after his win alongside another Nobel Prize winner (his wife): www.vogue.in/magazine-sto...
For his Nobel Prize ceremony (left), Dr. Banerjee wore a velvet bandhgala jacket (which in Bengal we call a 'prince coat'), a south indian silk dhoti draped Bengali style, and a cotton kurta. Suket Dhir (his stylist) remarked that his outfit was talked about more than his achievement.
academics need to be more invested in their own aesthetic — abhijit banerjee is a good example (of someone who is very much concerned about fashion) that always comes to mind
also my committee said they’re excited to read my dissertation when i finally start writing it 🥰
weekends mean

1) visits from (one of) my mother’s (several) saree-walas (this one is the jamdaniwala)
2) taking this exact same picture from the gym balcony
3) playing with the gym cat
I will find any excuse to talk about Devdas
On the other hand Devdas is really interesting because it is all very clearly early 2000s fashion but somehow fits into this imagined early 1900s world Bhansali has created
Stumbled while scrolling TikTok, but every time I rewatch Devdas I realize the costume department had them wearing whatever — the blouse is accurate (minus the neckline perhaps) for the times but what is this saree/drape supposed to be?
This is my favourite interview of all time. I love listening to people talk about their collections (of anything).
