2/7/1978: The blizzard of '78 hits the US from the Midwest New England. A level 5 extreme blizzard with wind gusts up to 100MPH, thunder&lightning, snowfall around 4"/hr. Some places got over 4' of snow, and snow drifts of 25'. 5 days later I was born. Close call.

The loss of amazing Canadian superstar Catherine O'Hara hits hard. I'll be spending this cold weekend rewatching some of her works. My viewing list is Home Alone 1&2, Schitt's Creek, Waiting For Guffman, Best in Show, A Mighty Wind, Beetlejuice 1&2, Six Feet Under, A Nightmare Before Christmas. RIP

Was just having a short stroll and heard a thumping noise. About 12 ft away this pileated woodpecker is feasting on some grubs in this dead tree before the big storm rolls in here in Maine.

On this day in 1785 the town of Paris Maine was incorporated. I don't have any finds associated with Paris Maine, but this coin from France was found by an old cellar hole in the Maine woods. This is an 1801 Treaty of Amiens Peace token. This is while Napoleon was in power.

"Fiery hot molasses floods the streets of Boston on January 15, 1919, killing 21 people and injuring scores of others. The molasses burst from a huge tank at the United States Industrial Alcohol Company building in the heart of the city."

1/5/1914 Henry Ford and his vice president James Couzens revealed that Ford Motor Company would double its workers’ wages to five dollars a day. This groundbreaking decision generated glowing headlines around the world.
This Model T key was found in the Maine woods on the side of an old logging road

Happy holidays to everyone! On this day in 1886 on the rocks right off the Portland Head Lighthouse the Annie C Maguire wrecked and the entire 18 person crew were rescued.

December 21st is National Maine Day! Here are some Maine Militia buttons, and Massachusetts Militia buttons that date to before Maine separated from Massachusetts and became its own state in 1820.

Another of my favorite finds from this past season. A Revolutionary War related dandy button. These buttons date from 1770-1800. You can still see remnants of the silver plating, and the word UNITE.
