September 2025

So far the best book I have read this year is without a doubt The Buffalo Hunter Hunter by @sgj.bsky.social. Left me heartbroken and angry. It's not an easy read and it shouldn't be.
An instant classic.

Miyazaki on an acid trip.

A masterpiece of nonsense.

22/ Bring Her Back

I've never seen @dionisea.bsky.social react so viscerally to a horror film. Usually nothing phases her but this one really got under her skin.
A ★★★½ review of Bring Her Back (2025)
A little slow, but great concepts and some fantastic shots. Trails off a little towards the end but Sally Hawkins gives it her all throughout.

21/ In a Violent Nature

Terrible choice of movie as I was expecting loud, slasher action to stop me dozing off and instead got a series wonderful walks through the woods.

@dionisea.bsky.social and I struggled to stay awake but really liked it nonetheless.

Cosy horror is a thing now and I love it ❤️ Can I get a 6 hour ASMR walking through the woods video please?

On a lighter note, here's a photo of a beautiful sunset, to remind us all that the world is fucking burning down and we just standing there watching it and writing a angry posts on a social media platform.

I've been in Italy for just over a day and I have made the irreparable mistake of watching the fucking news.

Ah... Also fuck Trump and that sausage fingers of a king, and yes, you don't even deserve the capital K.

Fuck Salvini for initiating a minute of silence for Charlie Kirk.
Fuck you Berlusconi & your stupid fucking bridge, how the fuck do you still piss me off and you've been dead for fucking years now.

📽️ 115/ Parthenope

The trailer was a total bait and switch.

@dionisea.bsky.social wanted to return to her beloved Naples but this was not the way she expected it.

A film to experience rather than understand I think.
A ★★★★ review of Parthenope (2024)
Evocative and enigmatic. The reviews suggest the film fails to achieve what it sets out to do for a wider audience but I find myself unable to justify a lower rating. Brought to mind Tinto Brass's Pap...

Happy Long Walk Day!

I was lucky to see the movie early, and to talk to the guy who wrote it. JT Mollner take a bow!

We discuss the dark comedy and hideous gun violence. Mark Hamill’s iconic heel turn. Creative control and casting choices. We talk about walking the walk

I finally let the hype overcome my reticence to delve into KPop.

Fantastic movie for a Saturday afternoon.

Listening to the @talkscaredpod.bsky.social episode about Weapons has made me realise that the film is absolutely saying something about school shootings.

It seems so unrealistic that the country isn't in uproar after all these kids go missing but that's exactly what happens after a school shouting

The first one that came to mind is the Monk and Robot series by @beckychb013.bsky.social

I often think of them and I wonder what they're up to.

Becky, we want more books plsssss!
For me it would have to be @robinhobb.bsky.social's wonderful Farseer trilogy (and subsequent other books in the series).

Fitz and the Fool deserve the full HBO huge budget treatment.
If you could adapt any work of literature into a TV series (and you can only pick one), which would you pick and why?

We'll go first. Nalo Hopkinson's Midnight Robber. Seeing that world come to life with walls of Caribbean culture would be real fascinating to see on TV. So good.

Your turn!

Heading back from a gig at The Dublin Castle in Camden.

Brings back lots of late 90s nostalgia but the Uber home in a luxury Merc is definitely an upgrade from the days of the rowdy night bus.

When I read it years back I'd just started reading in English and I suppose I didn't connect with it on such a visceral level. Could have been the language barrier or could have been just the wrong time in my life, I don't know what it was but right now it is like discovering a whole new world.

For me, reading has almost always been a solitary experience.

I know my mum read to me as a child but I don't remember it and when she left it meant I was surrounded by people who have never voluntarily opened a book in their life.
