We had some fun today at the Alabama Aquarium with our Tank or Treat event. Visitors had the chance to get up close to creepy crawly critters and chat with our graduate students.

The Alabama Aquarium has raised more than 200 seahorses over the last few years, mainly through the hard work of Senior Aquarist Devin Linsday.

Today, some of these seahorses are helping to teach Central Campus high school students about biodiversity in Des Moines, Iowa.

Coastal classrooms are not the only place you will find collaboration with our team at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab. In landlocked Iowa, a number of seahorses raised by aquarists from the Alabama Aquarium are helping to teach high school students about biodiversity.

Since 2019, Discovery Hall Programs has partnered with Dr. Paul Harnik to develop Postcards from the Past. An interactive activity developed from the field to the classroom to explore the environmental history of the Northern Gulf Coast. A collection is displayed in the Alabama Aquarium.

Dr. Charles Martin partnered with the Mobile County Public Schools to create an educational video about the Mobile Tensaw Delta that teachers can use in their classrooms.

Fieldwork: Dr. Alison Robertson's team in Port St. Joe, FL, for two separate studies. The effects of ciguatoxins on urchin reproduction (Ashley Dalleske) and the toxicological impacts of novel carbon capture compounds on the health, taste, and odor of scallops (Elyssa Clendenin).

Windy, wet, and cool were the conditions participants encountered during the 2025 MATE Worlds ROV Competition this year in Alpena, Michigan. Yet the excitement, energy, and drive of the students weren’t diminished in the slightest as they showcased their Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs).
