Thanks Eric! I had to ink the PCs first and save him for last. I wanted to savor the experience :)

I've had the opportunity to illustrate this classic D&D monster for the game a few times and, despite its ferocity, have loved this brute since I first played with the plastic Chinasaur its based on way-back-when. 👉 diterlizzi.com/essay/owlbea...

Inktober, Day 8, "Reckless": I may have been a little reckless inking such an ambitious image over afternoon tea, but I've wanted to realize this drawing of a D&D Bulette since I first sketched it back in 2006.

...so I was not happy with this final ink drawing. I thought the ink washes would add a murky eeriness to it, but it comes off less controlled and rushed to me, so here's another go:

Inktober Day 7, "Starfish": A revisit to one of my favorite sketches done during the "Drawn to Fantasy" livestreams, held over the 2020 lockdown.⭐️

Inktober Day 6, "Pierce": I finally inked a favorite sketch drawn back in 2005!⚔️

Agree. I actually think the sketches are stronger than the finish ink…that happens sometimes.

Inktober Day 5, "Deer": The Peryton is a creature which first appeared in the "Book of Imaginary Beings", inspired by medieval heraldry. Though they appear as seen, they cast the shadow of a human, their preferred prey. According to D&D, they particularly enjoy dining on the heart of their victim. 🦌

Inktober Day 4, "Murky": Out of the murky shadows of a new moon came the wight, its unblinking pale eyes glowing in the foggy gloom like Death itself hunting for souls.💀

Inktober Day 3 "Crown": I have this drawing from 2019 that I was going to redo, but there's a painting on the easel (for a yet-to-be-announced project) that needs finishing so this li'l fella will have to do.👑

I've often wanted a Monster Manual that showed creatures in their environment, demonstrating skills that they are known for.

Today, I've resurrected my favorite dwarf adventurer, Husky Thunderbolt (from 2019's Inktober entries), who will soon realize what a clever trapper the Ettercap is.🕸

Inktober Day 2 "Weave":
The Dungeons & Dragons Ettercap made its monstrous debut in 1981's "Fiend Folio" and was first illustrated by the late, great Russ Nicholson. I had the opportunity to render this spidery critter over a decade later for the "AD&D Monstrous Manual".

So that's my overall approach to this year's Inktober: Revisiting old friends and presenting them anew, starting with this silly wizard from 1993, who has one heck of a mustache. (In case you missed it, that's today's prompt, "mustache").

This new edition, "Iguana Bay 2.0", displayed Claire's original drawings alongside new iterations. It was amazing to see the growth in her technical skills.

Since then, I periodically will redraw old drawings--usually as a warm up sketch--to see how I would interpret a character or scene today.

In 2003, I discovered a unique and novel idea for an artist's sketchbook from the incredibly talented Claire Wendling who had redrawn all the sketches from her 1996 sketchbook, "Iguana Bay".🧵
