Santas get set for Rainbows Hospice run in Loughborough
By Portia O'Toole The Rainbows Hospice has organised a 5km festive Santa run through Loughborough on Sunday(DEC7), starting at 11am. The run will raise money for the Leicestershire charity, which provides play therapy sessions for babies, children and young people with illnesses. Their aim is to “brighten short lives”. Advanced tickets can be bought until tomorrow (FRI,DEC5) for £15 (adults) or £8 (children), but tickets will be available at a slightly higher price on the day.

Budding sports writers from De Montfort University Leicester (DMU) raced against the clock to produce live match reports from the Premier League clash between Leicester City and Newcastle United. The group of third-year students from DMU’s BA in Journalism watched the action from the press box at the King Power Stadium before completing a 350-word match report. Their reports had to be completed within 10 minutes of the final whistle, and filed to lecturer Lee Marlow, who leads the sports journalism module on the course.

They are part of a quartet of DMU graduates and current students who have won recognition at the 2025 East Midlands Real Entrepreneurs' Awards. The news comes as Universities UK – the organisation which lobbies on behalf of higher education – launches a new national campaign to show the impact universities have in helping support and motivate students to set up their own businesses.
