Glad to be able to pop by the @ducuuo.bsky.social picket line as they were just getting set up this morning.
Staff are on strike in the cold & damp to say NO to compulsory redundancies. Management must engage with staff properly: co-design a recovery plan, do not impose cuts!

Solidarity to all of Dundee’s workers as they strike in the face of some of most caricaturishly mismanagement this sector has seen to date (although god knows the competition is heating up). May this venerable institution survive and thrive; victory to the strikers!

Very strong turnout this morning on the first of our five days strike.

On Friday, in a meeting with the interim Principal, he confirmed his ideology is to cut as many jobs as possible.

Support our action to save jobs and save the University!

We can also quote him word for word from a meeting with all staff on 1st July.

“I do want to emphasises the fact that it’s a pure voluntary severance scheme.

It will not be followed by a redundancy scheme.

There is no secret Plan B.”

We have voted to force management to rule out the use of compulsory redundancies.

The result demonstrates the anger & disappointment with the lack of progress and failure of successive leaderships at the University to deliver a sustainable way forward that protects jobs and the University’s future.

Our members have voted to support industrial action to fight against job cuts passed today!

In the ballot our 72% of members were in favour of strike action, and 90% in favour of action short of strike. Turnout was 58%.

Thank you to all members, reps and officials for helping us get the vote out.

Remember when UEG told us “there was no plan B” for further redundancies.

Now we know, from the published Recovery Plan, that at the same time they were proposing over 400 future job losses including over 350 redundancies.

We cannot trust their words.

Vote in our ballot now to protect jobs.

The Courier yesterday stated that Nigel Seaton will be staying on for another year.

We strongly oppose this reporting.

As they mention, Court will have to give final approval But this is reported as a done deal. It isn’t!

All Court members should be able to share their views at the next meeting.

The University Recovery Plan submitted by Court and UEG can now be shared. The campus unions are hosting a joint Townhall event to share the plan, so everyone can make their own judgements on what was proposed, including the number of redundancies.

Join us this Thursday 12:30 in LT3 Dalhousie.
