OK but he’s preaching to the choir. Dems need a clear cultural narrative that isn’t just a rebuke of M*GA. What does the electorate dearly want that isn’t being addressed by either party? That is the work. The ideas and the passion are lovely—need to translate to everyday needs/wants/expectations.

Yeah, it’s off-putting.
After the season they just had, it’s an odd team from which to poach line coaches from both sides of the ball. Bengals first game of the season must’ve left a deeper cut than we could have known.
Why isn’t #ethnography more commonly understood and deployed in business and beyond? Sure, it takes longer than “asking AI” but it grounds decision-making, messaging, and innovation in actual, lived experiences. Seems helpful maybe?
Have you checked out her “Interpretation of Fairy Tales?” So so so good.

I heard this is a good place to talk about taxing the rich, breaking up big tech, and ending Washington corruption.
Sfmoma taken several years ago, maybe?
…gradually (50 years) woven into their fever dream policy—it’s not by accident. So if we’re going to talk Dem brand, we need more fire/conflict and cultural EQ in the tent:
1) set vision
2) define objective
3) clarify strategy (buckle up!) and
4) put all those values about inclusion to work.
And once those select few people are in the tent, there’s no real spark. No momentum. No vision. Just some polite and self-righteous virtues. That deadens the cultural nerve endings that would help a party understand a diverse constituency. Issues that were once irrelevant to republicans have been +
Strategically, republicans are so comfortable with the rugby of politics: get into the tent, punch the snot out of each other, and stumble—together, smiling—to the pub. You only need to check one issue box to get into their tent. By contrast, Dems insist on all boxes checked to get into the tent. +
Yes, but also, republicans have been long-gaming since 1972. People don’t want to hear this, but TFG is replaceable by nearly anyone. Why? He’s actually less a brand than a sub-brand. The brand is right wing fundamentalism and it’s 50 years rolling. Dems “brand” relies on superhuman charisma. +
Turned my whole grasp of Black American identity on its ear. Such a gutting and personal book.

Everyone rapping like it’s a commercial, acting like life is…a big…commercial?
Does culture stay in a body, or move through it? Which view is less reductive? This is the problem with multiculturalism. In contrast, interculturalism studies trajectories of action, relationship, and belief; it doesnt classify bodies. We are fluid; not fixed.
We are always becoming ourselves through each other. There’s no other way! Although she intended these words for a fairly specific audience, I continue to be inspired by Gwendolyn Brooks: “we are each other’s
harvest, we are each other’s
business, we are each other’s
magnitude and bond.”
Net: be more genuinely curious; be less smugly assured. Let the arguments give away to sustained observation, inquiry, and reflection.

We are relearning the pains of Daedalus.
Make no mistake: we are in a fog and moving quickly over the precipice. But again, this is not a political post! A culture of incuriosity and self-assurance has alienated us from ourselves and each other.
