?It would have to be a VLS firing cruise missiles through a MAC re- purposing dreadnought.
New missile, new warhead. Sovereign, Survivable (dreadnought) and a bit Shit (well compared to an SLBM).
But as independent as we can be without producing tritium and HEU.

Well it wouldn’t be a second sovereign method given that the current relies entirely upon the US.
Nor would it be an additional delivery system, UK has no appetite for French style last chance demonstrations or escalatory steps.

Trump is taller than Putin. Reason enough for Trump to hang the picture. I’m shorter than them both and proud to say I couldn’t give a sh£t.

Looks as if the US approach to NATO (pay more or we leave. Give us territory or we leave) is on its merry way to South East Asia.
January 24, 2026 at 9:34 AM
I can’t see any alternative. The EU can only function with its security guaranteed by an external power?

The ‘Great International Board of Peace, better than Noble, bigger than ANY, Best Peace Prize EVER’ prize.
January 22, 2026 at 11:57 AM
Genuinely believe he hates all of us. Perhaps Trump is doing us a favour. At least we can see what is coming and can use the next 4 years to prepare?
January 22, 2026 at 9:24 AM
To be replaced by President Vance (a couple of years early). That’ll be okay, just give him the Cotswolds.
January 22, 2026 at 9:03 AM
So IF US is to have sovereign ownership of Greenlandic military bases for National security… next Fylingdales, Saxa Vord, Lakenheath, Aviano, Ramstein???
Perhaps part of the cost of their NATO support.
Diego Garcia, Falkland Islands/Las Malvinas and Ascension Island for Trident?
January 22, 2026 at 8:58 AM
It'll be the same for the UK. The special dependency (I mean relationship) will live on until the last dreadnought/vanguard sails away from Kings Bay minus trident. Until that point the UK will still cling to the faint hope of a reconciliation.

No come-back and no domestic opposition. From the far outside it seems as if America supports this?
January 19, 2026 at 8:44 AM
Do you see a move towards Europe, even EU membership? Saying that the EU is more likely to fracture once NATO ceases following a US exit.
January 18, 2026 at 9:22 AM
One the one hand perhaps this is the best way Canada can hit back at Trump. On the other it reinforces what the Trump administration believe, that the USA is being surrounded: The only border they can accept is an ocean.

Was Oreshnik ever intended as an aircraft carrier destroyer? 36 kinetic submunitions vs one target point and a CEP of ?200m. Assuming you know where you think it’ll be!
January 12, 2026 at 4:34 PM
Then a new cruise missile warhead loosely based on Astraea designed, certified and ready to produce if needed? Doubt U.K. will move from the current declared SLBM but a hedge is needed.
January 12, 2026 at 11:47 AM
Absolutely. That need for sovereignty has been definitively proven. Can only hope the U.K. is learning. Supposedly Astraea will be more sovereign than Holbrook but what we need is a hedge, submarine/surface launched long range conventional cruise missile program (not US).
January 12, 2026 at 11:47 AM
Damn they're standing on it. There goes my theory that it was made of plasticine.
January 4, 2026 at 7:41 PM
Yep, browse about Halfords, nice e-scooter, goes 15 to 20mph with a 40 mile range. Okay a bit pricey but as you can fold it and take it into work makes sense. Then note for private road use only so legally it gets me from the front door to pavement (a few meters). Why sell the bastard thing???
January 4, 2026 at 10:16 AM
Has this been part of a decision to free scalp/storm shadow for UKR use expecting Russian defence to adapt and blunt the effectiveness of the platform? Have Dassault quietly certified Taurus on the Rafale?
December 28, 2025 at 10:29 AM
On Germany and Taurus. Do you think that Germany, in sensing the danger to Europe, has chosen to hold Taurus in reserve for future European use should Russia escalate?
December 28, 2025 at 10:29 AM
I did thank you.
They declared war on Germany shortly after Britain did. They had more tanks, aircraft and soldiers than Germany and had invested in the Maginot line. If they were risking Paris they certainly didn’t believe that at the time.
December 27, 2025 at 4:36 PM
Don’t say that too loudly. UK deterrent is as independent as rent-a-nuke sounds.
December 27, 2025 at 12:37 PM
Will the next error be in the belief in a continuing confederated European structure once the overseer and guarantor of European security leaves? Is France risking Paris for Warsaw any more credible than the US risking Washington for Berlin?
December 27, 2025 at 10:27 AM
However that trust in the USA has brought a long period of peace. The US hegemony in arms over Europe has prevented a third world war and suppressed the European tendency towards armed conflict.
December 27, 2025 at 10:27 AM
End of President Trump’s second term. How many additional nuclear states?
South Korea and Japan. Any extra?
