i think cartoonists use them sometimes just to get out of a composition problem. i see them used in independent comics, but dc and marvel must have an editorial rule against them.

there's this Olivier Assayas observation about how comic movies are bad because, for instance, Uncanny X Men builds up these webs of narrative over 200 issues and that's what's fun/psychotic about genre comics, so riffing on Semiotext(e) concepts for 70 issues & straying into nonsense sounds cool.

Instead of making a Vertigo imprint that is more or less like Image Comics, they should make a Vertigo imprint that's more like Semiotext(e).
