One of the primary risk factors for failure is the duration since the vasectomy. The longer the time, the worse the outcome.

Vasectomy reversals are one of the more technically challenging andrological procedures. A clinician undertaking this should be trained ideally in microsurgery, or at the very least, use loupes. Again, the right hands have been trained right

It is imperative that patients are given full informed consent including failure rates

However, any medical procedure not performed correctly will have a higher failure rate. Vasectomy has a very low failure rate (late failure risk 1:2000) if performed correctly, but I do agree failure can occur despite gold standard treatment

Yes, vasectomies are meant to be permanent. But circumstances can change. That’s why vasectomy reversals exist. They are real, they work (in the right hands) and it’s time they get more attention.

I think increasing awareness and understanding that #penileprosthesis have excellent outcomes amongst clinicians is key. Also, accessing surgical training and mentorship can difficult, especially for some jurisdictions.

🟠 Bent erections
🟠 Pain
🟠 A lump or plaque
🟠 Penile shortening or narrowing
If you notice these, speak to your urologist.
