It was an honor to welcome educators from across New York to Albany for this year’s MoCAA Conference. Educators of color are essential to strong schools and student success. MoCAA gives these leaders space to connect, advocate, and be supported in their work.

I joined an inspiring room of women shaping education across our region. Principals, district leaders, and program directors who carry both the visible and invisible work of moving schools forward. If you are a young woman finding your path, know that your voice and leadership matter in this city.

Bringing together a diverse group with this range of expertise takes intentional work, and these transition committees reflect that effort. Their insight is essential in this process. Our upcoming meeting will focus on refining proposals that reflect the needs of every neighborhood.

I joined state and local leaders today to discuss efforts to reduce gun violence. GIVE communities have seen shootings with injury drop 60 percent since 2021. It is progress, but not a finish line. Even one act of violence is too many, and we have more work ahead.

Tonight’s tree lighting at Academy Park was beautiful. What a wonderful way to gather as a community. Families came out for the music, the treats, and the simple fun of being together. The kids who came stood together to officially light the tree together!

Today, I had the honor of celebrating the Jewish Family Services of Northeastern New York on continuing their important work as they open the doors to a brand new Center for Counseling & Resilience. This milestone marks an exciting chapter in their mission to support our community.

This transition brings together people from across every sector of the city and invites residents, business owners, faith leaders and more, to shape priorities for my incoming administration.

In the spirit of Small Business Saturday, it was the perfect time (which is all the time!) to support the locally owned shops that give Albany its character. From Lark Street to neighborhoods across the Capital Region, small businesses help keep the charm and cheer in our city alive.

My family had the privilege of spending Thanksgiving honoring our First Responder heroes and their families. I was touched by the courage of families who stood strong representing their fallen loved ones. A HUGE thank you to @1strcf and CXS for ALL you do to give back.

I joined the Frank Chapman Memorial Institute for an evening dedicated to the people who keep our city moving. We celebrated the sanitation workers from DGS and the leadership behind Albany Victory Gardens, all of whom show Albany what quiet commitment and everyday service look like.

I am deeply moved by Rev. Kevin T. Taylor’s Letter to the Editor in the Times Union. His words honor generations of Albany residents whose faith and persistence shaped the path to this moment. I am grateful for everyone who pushed for progress long before my election.

This weekend showed how deeply Albany shows up for one another. From Metropolitan Baptist Church to the Regional Food Bank’s record Thanksgiving distribution to Heart of Love’s 13th Annual Giveaway, volunteers brought real care to families. Grateful for everyone keeping our community steady.

MATSgiving is a powerful example of what happens when young people are given real opportunity and real support. Coach Carmen Duncan & the entire Mission Accomplished Transition Services team continue to empower our youth with workforce preparation and entrepreneurial development in the Cap Region.

Yesterday lifted my spirits. Seeing the young people in the room, hearing their accomplishments, and feeling their drive filled me up.

I was grateful to join the Faith in the Field Summit Series and to stand with the faith leaders, advocates, and partners who show up every single day for our neighbors.

A particular “thank you" to Albany County Legislator Dr. Carolyn Mclaughlin for the warm welcome and for your steady leadership.
