i had a REALLY GOOD HS history teacher who was a naval battle nut, naval battles always take place over PERIODS OF TIME, like you die in slow motion (if you're on the losing end of the battle), attack planes changed that in WW2, he taught us how US turned the tide first in WW2 via naval battles
