4 Roxy Cinema. I saw the best movie of the weekend here, but the website looks like Alamo drafthouse and when you arrive you realize that this is where the rich bitches love to be. Posh wine sipping atmosphere, it’s inside of a hotel. Anyhow watch Room Temperature (2025)

The New Yorker vibes, the preshow is in cursive, you stand in a lobby with no chairs surrounded by Ivy League preppy white boys in scarves, the concessions are in individual pretty compartments and are mostly imported “Japanese style” candy. And yet, this place has the BEST programming

2: IFC Center. comfy and familiar, I usually frequent theaters like this, the clean arthouse multiplexes that play 8 hour movies for hippie grandparents, there’s one of these in any city that means anything and I can never hate them. If I find out where u live I will send you one of these

Overall, I had a nice time. I got to have a lot of fun in bursts, and I am glad I came. I soaked up a lot of complex confusion emotions that I’m going to have to sort out, and will probably remember this weekend as equal parts lonely wandering and exciting partying. I’d probably not come again

but at Magfest, the only people I was ever going to meet were the people already in my circle or adjacent to my circle. I am lucky that I did actually make new friends here, I bet a lot of other people didn’t. The only people I met were people I already knew or was destined to eventually meet anyway

Because of this complete BS, I end up having to attach myself to someone who has an understanding of the place else I end up getting lost in the crowd and abandoned. This is probably the thing that fucked with me the most, because at Anthrocon there are many avenues to meet people spontaneously,

My biggest gripe is the fucking WiFi. This con does not provide any solution for the fact that a million fucking attendees are here all at once, and service goes black for everyone, making coordination often near impossible.

This con is fucking LOUD. Gamers are like 500% less socially adjusted than furries. So much screaming and meme recitations and loud music. This would probably have not rubbed on me so hard if I wasn’t in an Alexandria hotel. The Colossus joke kept making my body react like I was hearing a bomb siren
