On desert planets like the one I grew up on (don't even ask about the sand in my makeup...), moisture farmers harvest water from the atmosphere. Some use active tech like vaporators (Luke Skywalker!) and others like my folks use passive gossamer nanotech webs that pluck H2O molecules from the air.
