Charlie Kirk was a human being and I condemn his murder. Period.

However, for the record: nobody deserves to be murdered for saying what they believe in public. If we want to have a free society, we *must* learn again how to disagree with each other in public while at the same time treating each other with humanity and respect.

It facilitates knee jerk reactions and the deepening of the divide between different groups, highlighting their differences rather than their shared humanity.

I've quit posting about politics because while I fiercely value having a country where you can speak freely about your political views, I don't think social media facilitates real discussion.

Social media has ruined something in us.

Nobody should be shot in the head at home.

Nobody should be shot in the head for attending school.

Nobody should be shot in the head for speaking on a university campus.

On the flip side, if no one does anything, the Republicans will absolutely skew districts in their states to make it certain they win the midterms, which is about much more than having a Republican-led Congress for another two years. And if that happens, I don't think blue states will remain "safe."

So you guys in CA aren't impressed with what he's doing now? Because he seems to be inspiring a lot of people as he fights back against the Republican effort to manipulate the upcoming midterms.

I wouldn't want to write in 2nd person, but I think it's when you use "you." Like: "You walked in the room and spotted the cookie on the table. You didn't want the cookie; yet, you DID want the cookie. So you grabbed the cookie and ate it." (2nd person past tense.)

I love him. I also love his band.
