PCSK9I are null, but importantly as previously shown in other studies, no negative effect on brain

Many thanks to FUNDACION CARDIOINFANTIL of Bogota Columbia, for the invitation and high honor to lecture virtually at their Cardiovascular Congress today on the topic of Lipid and Lipoprotein complexities. It was a pleasure to join with my long-time Argentinian colleague & Lipidologist Pablo Coral

What is the size of the thrombus in a coronary artery that can send one to Heaven or the CCU? Coronary artery lumens are quite small, and a cholesterol-rich plaque rupture or erosion will induce a thrombus. A tiny thrombus will partially block (cause ischemia) or totally block (cause infarction).

On this podcast, I along with an oncologist (speaking about cancer) and I on lipids had the opportunity to educate a very different crowd - the Finance World - I was a guest on Jimmie Lee's The Bull of Wall Street Podcast - My section starts at 21:23 - Enjoy www.youtube.com/watch?v=FPSE...

To further confuse the EPA vs EPA+DHA story. Here is new data from STRENGTH showing EPA + DHA reduced MACE in Asian patients. Authors had no reasons but perhaps due to Asian incidence of IR and TG issues. www.atherosclerosis-journal.com/article/S002...

DHA is crucial for maintaining brain neuron integrity and may inhibit tau phosphorylation. High doses (0.9–1.8 g/d) of DHA/EPA have shown improvements in cognitive function, while low doses (0.3–0.7 g/d) did not. www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0002916523463204?via%3Dihub

That confirms the first LDL-P was indeed, as suspected a false positive
drlipid.bsky.social
Yes the cholesterol in RBC can be transferred to lipoproteins, albumin or reused in reticuloendothelial system or marrow
drlipid.bsky.social
In such a case there’s discordance between apoB and LDL-P. Likely the LDL-P is a false positive. The apoB, LDLc and Non-HDL-C are all concordant and thus believable.

"Understanding the Lipid Panel" - next are insights on Non-HDL-C which refers (1) to the mass (weight) in mg of cholesterol within all of the apoB-containing lipoproteins per dL or (2) the number (in mmols) of cholesterol molecules in all the apoB-particles per L.

I just discovered that there is a pretty good, animated lecture of mine (Grand Rounds Presentation from September 2020) describing a lot of useful lipid and lipid profile basics. Enjoy - www.youtube.com/watch?v=uYZd... @nationallipid.bsky.social @aspcardio.bsky.social @familyheartfdn.bsky.social

Insights on HDL-C reported as (1) mass (weight in mg) of all of the cholesterol molecules within all of the HDLs per dL of plasma or (2) the NUMBER of all of the cholesterol molecules in HDLs er liter [mmols). HDL-C or HDL-P have no relationship HDL functionality or reverse cholesterol transport

"Understanding the Lipid Panel" - LDL-C reported as (1) the mass (weight in mg) or the # (mmols) of all of the cholesterol molecules within all of the IDLs and LDLs circulating in a dL of plasma LDL-C is calculated, directly measured, or assayed as the gold standard assay termed beta-quantification

That is a big reason why these risk calculators are useless. Base your risk on causal risk factors BP, apoB, Lp(a), smoking history and noncausal

Revisiting my series "Understanding the Lipid Panel" - 1 metric at a time starting with Total Cholesterol. The lipid panel reports lipid mass concentrations but not the lipoprotein concentrations. In essence lipid concentrations are simply guesstimates or surrogates of lipoprotein concentrations.
