There is a £40bn tax hole and govt must hike taxes, say headlines.

None said that HMRC didn't collect £46.8bn last yr. 40% (£18.6bn) relates to corporations. £500bn since 2010.

Government delay tactics on humanist marriages in England and Wales mentioned in Private Eye!

WHAT does "at pace" mean in parliamentary parlance?
In 2014, the Lords discussed humanist marriage ceremonies. Lord Hyde, a minister in the coalition, said the government was "taking the issue very seriously". In 2016, replying to a similar question, Lord Faulks said from the despatch box that the government was "carefully considering" the matter. In 2018, Lady Vere, a whip, "looked forward to making progress on this complex issue". And now, in 2025, justice minister Lord Ponsonby said officials were "working at pace" on an update.
Which no doubt they are. Because "at pace", although sometimes taken to be a synonym for "fast", can easily mean "at the pace of a snail".
