thesis advisor: mental health is just that, health. you carry an inhaler for your asthma. it's not shameful or weak to get medical care for biochemical dysfunction that prevents you from living your best life. doesn't matter if the dysfunction is in your lungs or in your brain.
What’s the most significant advice you received from a teacher?

I had a Geology prof who always said “have strong opinions, loosely held”

Be passionate, assess alternatives with conviction, take sides. But don’t fall so in love with your opinions that you can’t change them with better data.

My quote of the day

Toxic people defy logic. Some are blissfully unaware of the negative impact that they have on those around them, and others seem to derive satisfaction from creating chaos and pushing other people's buttons.

I wish I was more surprised by this "established" take ... but alas, heard it many, many times. And yet, us youngins are still here. We'll keep fighting!

The science is always top notch but so too are the people. #SFN25 was a great opportunity to catch up with dear old friends and make some new ones. In this crazy world, I consider myself very fortunate indeed to be able to interact with all of these fine folks.

This kind of bums me out a bit, because I've been using the word 'delve' for ages and I really enjoy it! Now everyone's going to think I'm a robot. And I'd like to keep that hidden until the time is right ...

You know, I will say, @tedabelneuro.bsky.social and the Iowa Neuroscience Institute really knows how to throw a party. There may have been shenanigans. Thanks INI for being such generous hosts and making a highlight of #sfn25.

Absolutely. It's totally OK. I've gone as long as <checks notes> 17 years. Still great. Publication quality image first try.

Yep. I was shoved into a post by a faculty member. It was not accidental. I took that as my cue to leave.

Introduced @marthabhattacharya.bsky.social to one of my fave San Diego taco joints. This is what SFN25 is all about: wonderful colleagues and great tacos. ;)

I like your theory.

It's complicated a bit by the marg factor and the elote postulate, but that feels like a good exchange rate.

The edge of the sunset makes for a nice little post SfN science run! 4.5 miles earns me some tacos.

Pretty excited I didn't listen to the resident who said, "What?! You can't run the SDCC to Hillcrest!" Because I can and it's fucking delightful.
