losing my mind at the "she should have followed directions" people

really? really? you're cool with "if you don't follow directions, they get to kill you"? that seems like a good state of affairs to you? that seems like how law enforcement ought to work: instant obeisance or death?

From Doug Ford to Donald Trump, we see the endless pattern: conservatives cry government is broken and only a *businessman* can save it, elect a businessman who breaks the government further, then they sell it for parts and ensure it remains broken. Rinse, lather, repeat.
DOGE cut 7000 jobs at the Social Security Admin and closed 50 field offices, and now they’re struggling to respond to up to 6 million pending cases in its processing centers and 12 million transactions in its field offices.

Now they’ll say it’s broken and must be privatized.

The U.S. government just banned five people from entering the country because it doesn’t like their speech. This ban, according to the State Department, is necessary to protect free speech.

If that sounds insane to you, congratulations on your reading comprehension.

ICE detain father shopping on Christmas Eve—then steal his family's groceries.

Then 3 agents divvy up his paid for food—taking what they want for themselves.

"Can I just get the wife's number to call and let her know?" woman asks.

"No, guess he should've complied," agent says.

Achilles Papapetrou, a giant of the field, was *furious* when he saw his colleagues ignoring Kerr's announcement.

He stood and demanded the crowd's attention, noting he had tried and failed to solve the problem for 30 years. Did they not understand they were hearing about a major discovery? (7/n)

Hot take time: (science) journalism's expectation of infallibility sets it up to fail.

Rare corrections should be an expected part of this work — not a reason to melt onto the floor in a puddle of shame.

Science learns from mistakes, and scicomm is more trustworthy when it reflects that.
