Corrugated pottery was the "everyday" cookware that the Mimbres people used. The painted pots were more special, used in ceremonies, etc. Corrugated pots and sherds are much more common. It's believed that the rough texture added surface area, which made the pots heat more effeciently on a fire

But here in New Mexico, with roots in Mexican Spanish, the word Gallinas refers to Turkeys. It may just be a colloquialism, but when locals say gallinas, they mean turkeys.
