(26/26) Really liking it so far. I do think RIGHT NOW I prefer SH2R, but there's some areas I think SHf surpasses 2R, & I've still got a lot of game left. Excited to play more tonight, will write spoiler-free impressions when I beat it the first time, then spoiler thoughts after I get all 5 endings.

(25/26) -I one day will use the "focus" feature, for now I've barely needed or touched. So neutral point as haven't engaged much with it.

I don't think anything is bad so far, & some of this I 100% suspect to change as I get further in. Especially the character & story stuff.
duskgolem.bsky.social
(24/26) -So far I'm not big on the sanity system. It hasn't bothered me too much, but can't say I'm a fan. On Hard at least in those red chasing sequences it feels a bit off in its balance. It usually is zero problem for me until those. Mechanic as a whole is "eh" for me so far.
duskgolem.bsky.social
(23/26) another in the future.

EH:
-I could do without the "Faith gacha", don't particularly care for it.
-I don't like the segments where everything goes red & you run. I've encountered three so far, none are miserable or anything, but I couldn't say I really liked them either.
duskgolem.bsky.social
(22/26) hard. But then it also helps build tension & "oh fuck" moments to keep you on your toes in combat. So overall putting it in okay.
-Weapon durability. I get the idea behind it, but I could really take it or leave it. So far I mostly just let weapons break so I can pick up
duskgolem.bsky.social
(21/25) not bad, like it has some fun in it, but it does feel kinda' unfitting, & not particularly great enough to justify itself. Not mad it's there, just like, "Okay?"
-Stamina (it helps balance the game often, but at some points it feels a little harsh or unfair at least on
duskgolem.bsky.social
(20/25) for a looong stretch without one. Autosaving makes up for it, but feels kinda' weird.
-Some parts don't feel like SH; There's sections which I think are kinda' weird or maybe even unfitting for SH. The second dark shrine section is what sticks out to me right now, it's
duskgolem.bsky.social
(19/24) -Scares; Not super scary, but I've never found the Silent Hill games that scary & this one has made me panic a few times).

OKAY:
-Save points. This is not a penalty, but the save points are placed weirdly. Sometimes there's three close together, then you don't find one
duskgolem.bsky.social
(18/24) -Bosses; I've only fought one boss, so just judging off that, First boss was decently good, feels very Souls-like to me though where nothing else in the game has so far.
-Exploration; It hasn't topped my favorite exploration stuff in SH yet, but it's fun to explore.
duskgolem.bsky.social
(17/24) rather simply, I'd say like the start of SH3 but maybe a bit more going on & a bit more Higurashi/anime toned. You can feel it's placing pieces & building to something slow-burn style though.
-Combat; I actually like the combat so far. To see if that changes or not!
duskgolem.bsky.social
(16/24) GOOD:
-Characters; I like them well enough so far, but not in love with them yet. Still a lot of game to go, this could change, but they're decently well written & characteristic.
-Story; There's a lot more going on than I'm privy to I'm sure, but the story starts off
duskgolem.bsky.social
(15/24) inventory, like SH4 did, but not only does SHf have it, I think it does it super well. Increasing inventory slots feel great, I actually ended up liking the equipable skills, the faith system how you can give up to work for upgrades, have to pick what you hold onto, etc.
duskgolem.bsky.social
(14/24) game, I've only done three "optional side content" things so far, but I LOVED all three. They're 100% worth doing. They remind me of Downpour in the best possible way.
-Inventory Management, I really wasn't expecting this one, Silent Hill doesn't usually have managing your
duskgolem.bsky.social
(13/24) I think might be the best executed version of what might be seen as a "horror game monster trope". If they were done worse, this would be a negative, but they were so well executed they came around to being awesome.
-Side Content; I desperately hope there's more in the
duskgolem.bsky.social
(12/24) that only a few monsters in the series I think have achieved before. Others are good to okay so far. I also will mention there's two types of monsters that vaguely are similar to "common" horror monster types you see in horror games, but with their own unique spins &
duskgolem.bsky.social
(11/24) -Monsters; So far I've liked them. This ascended to great for me because I think the first time you encounter two of the monsters they have a "tense" & kinda' scary presence
duskgolem.bsky.social
(10/21) Music; The OST was done by four composers, Akira Yamoaka being one of them, two composers from 07th Expansion stuff, & the music like the last point I made, the music feels collaborative between them. It's a great OST, just Silent Hill has a high bar & not fully pushed to my favorite yet.
