Prof Piers Forster (Priestley Centre for Climate Futures) led a major international study which has found that climate change is accelerating, with global warming on track to breach 1.5°C by 2028. He emphasises that rapid emissions cuts could still halve the rate of warming & avert the worst impacts
Climate change is accelerating, scientists find in ‘grim’ report » Yale Climate Connections
They warn that humanity is just three years from overshooting the Paris Agreement’s 1.5°C target, with seas rising faster than ever. But the report also contains a little bit of good news.

Professor Dominick Spracklen (Earth and Environment) co-authored a study showing that deforestation in the southern Amazon significantly reduces dry season rainfall by disrupting atmospheric moisture flows—posing serious risks to agriculture, water supplies, & regional climate stability. Read more:
More deforestation leads to a drier dry season, Amazon study finds
In Brazil’s southern Amazonian region, where the notorious “arc of deforestation” has been expanding since the 1970s, forest loss is reshaping the region’s atmospheric water cycle. As the Amazon Rainf...

The Magnetic North Pole Is Rapidly Moving Because of Some Blobs

Prof Phil Livermore (Earth & Environment) explains the rapid shift of the magnetic north pole toward Siberia is driven by two massive magnetic blobs in Earth’s outer core, satellite data shows the pole moves around 28 miles per year.
