The Chanter on Bread Street. A classic sports bar with decent pub grub, but its QR code ordering system might frustrate solo diners. Is it the right spot for a quick bite near Lothian Road? We weigh in. Read more:
Review: The Chanter, a City Centre Sports Bar - Edinburgh Reviews
The Chanter is a reliable sports bar, perfect for a quick, "cost-effective" bite before a cinema trip. Food is "pretty good" (try the mac & cheese), but the venue is noisy and the QR code menu is frustratingly incomplete.

Finally managed to get a table at Browns of Leith. The converted warehouse is warm and welcoming, even if finding a seat is a challenge. The £20 lobster roll from Shrimp Wreck was worth the wait.
Review: Brown’s of Leith, the Shore - Edinburgh Reviews
Despite the premium prices and the challenge of snagging a table, this warehouse conversion impresses with its intelligent layout, effective heating, and high-quality food and drink options.

A 45g "Soft Core" Creme Egg protein bar that collaborates with Cadbury for a lower-protein, lower-calorie snack.
Review: Grenade’s Cadbury Creme Egg Protein Bar - Edinburgh Reviews
The Grenade Cadbury Creme Egg bar trades macros for branding. With just 13g of protein and a smaller bar size, it feels like a downgrade from the usual. It tastes okay, but it's not a serious fitness snack.

Visitors can play adventure golf inside a "lost world" temple filled with dinosaurs, complete with food, music, and special effects.
Review: Volcano Falls - Fountain Park - Edinburgh Reviews
Volcano Falls is a roaring good time. This "evil temple" themed crazy golf is immersive and fun, with animatronic dinos and great obstacles. It's let down by crowds and a total lack of accessibility, but otherwise highly recommended.

It is a challenge to find a spot that is both 'fancy' and 'not overpriced'. This City Centre steakhouse manages to walk that tightrope perfectly.
Review: Wildfire, a steak and seafood bistro - Edinburgh Reviews
Wildfire in Edinburgh's City Centre is a date-worthy gem. The focus is on exceptional quality steak, but don't miss the Scottish classics like haggis or whisky ice cream. This popular spot is intimate and high-quality. Booking is essential.

Our review of The Gruff Goat finds a useful but confused venue where the egg Shakshouka shines, but the atmosphere is marred by strange seating arrangements.
Review: The Gruff Goat, A cafe and bistro on Teviot Place - Edinburgh Reviews
The Gruff Goat on Teviot Place is a strange beast. With a menu ranging from haggis to a recommended egg Shakshouka, it's great for picky groups. However, the atmosphere is confused, and you might end up dining next to a heater.

Located on Leith Walk, Ella serves reliable Greek comfort food and sharing platters in a visually striking, albeit tightly packed, venue that evokes a Mediterranean villa.
Review: Ella - Taste of Greece on Leith Walk - Edinburgh Reviews
Atmosphere reigns supreme at Ella - Taste of Greece. It looks like an ancient villa but serves reliable, standard Greek fare. Good for solo diners or groups, but the tight layout isn't pram-friendly. A convenient "safe bet" rather than a culinary star.

A full Scottish breakfast is one thing, but the "Brunswick Rösti" is on another level. We took a look at the brunch menu at Leith's Brunswick Book Club.
Review: The Brunswick Book Club, a gastropub on Leith Walk - Edinburgh Reviews
A 5-star review of Leith's Brunswick Book Club. It's a well-run, casual pub and restaurant with "absolutely fantastic" food. Great for solo diners, groups, and terrace-lovers. A remarkable discovery that's great value for money.
