Innovative Initiatives Grants The EHPS Innovative Initiatives Grant is intended to support collaboration across EHPS countries and members in their research endeavours, for example through collaborative scoping work, protocol development, grant idea generation/drafting, knowledge exchange or research training. The aim is to create research synergies between EHPS members and achieve innovative outcomes that advance the field of health psychology. It is expected that the application is submitted by at least one EHPS member who is the grant coordinator. It is expected that the applicant(s) will work towards a specified deliverable and timeline, and will produce a brief report on their activity for the upcoming annual EHPS conference. One Innovative Initiatives Grant is available for a maximum of 5000 Euros. Application Deadline: Friday 6th March 2026

➡️ Following the suggestions outlined by the Communications Task and Finish Group at the 2025 conference in Groningen, the following changes to the newsletter have been implemented, effective from this week:
Update: Newsletter guidelines and item submission Following the suggestions outlined by the Communications Task and Finish Group at the 2025 conference in Groningen, the following changes to the newsletter have been implemented, effective from this week: - At the bottom of the newsletter, we now include a link to a webpage outlining the requirements for newsletter items, such as the announcement being from an EHPS entity (e.g., subcommittee, SIG) or relevant to the EHPS membership. - Newsletter items can be submitted by EHPS members through the form embedded in this website. Items submitted by Wednesday midnight will be included in the newsletter on Friday. Newsletter item submissions by email will no longer be accepted. - Any questions about eligibility of newsletter items or about this procedure should be addressed to the EHPS Secretary, Laura M. König This update concludes the implementation of the suggestions generated by the Communications Task and Finish Group. Other implemented suggestions were: A bridge from the EHPS Bluesky account to Mastodon Setting up an EHPS Linkedin page. The EHPS Bluesky account and Linkedin page are linked at the bottom of every newsletter. I would like to thank the members of the group, Melanie Bamert, Dr. Michèle Birtel, Dr. Maya Braun, Imogen Freethy, Kelly Lloyd, Professor Barbara Mullan and Dr. Emma Norris, for their work, as well as all EHPS members who took part in our survey that informed the suggestions. The EHPS was sorry to hear of the recent passing of Professor Gerjo Kok. He was active in the society for many years, including hosting the conference in Maastricht in 2007, and more recently through many contributions on the EHPS Fellows Committee. He also was a Fellow of the society since 2013.

Eating During Pregnancy and Postpartum: Psychological, Behavioral, and Health Perspectives Eating during pregnancy and the postpartum period plays a critical role in shaping maternal and offspring health. Nutrition during these stages not only impacts maternal physical and mental well-being and birth outcomes but also influences the cognitive, emotional, and physical development of the offspring. The interplay between maternal dietary choices, cultural influences, and biological processes creates a complex system of interactions that profoundly affect health outcomes. Understanding these dynamics is essential to uncovering how maternal and familial factors shape developmental trajectories. Given the growing interest in holistic health approaches, exploring the effects of eating behaviors during pregnancy and postpartum is timely and necessary to address pressing public health challenges. Optimal maternal nutrition is fundamental for a healthy pregnancy, positive birth outcomes, and successful postpartum recovery. Poor dietary behaviors during these stages have been linked to adverse outcomes, including neurodevelopmental conditions, cognitive impairments, and mental health challenges in offspring. Moreover, maternal nutrition interacts with key mechanisms such as the gut-brain axis, epigenetic programming, and sensitive developmental periods, which are critical windows for influencing long-term health. Additionally, cultural and psychosocial determinants, including family support and socioeconomic factors, play significant roles in shaping eating behaviors. Addressing these issues through targeted research and interventions is vital to improving maternal and child health outcomes, improving pre- and postnatal care, reducing disparities, and informing global public health strategies.
