Hi! I’m El, a PhD student at ZSL and UCL working on understanding behaviour to inform conservation in an endangered amphibian species. I am question-driven, and my primary interests lie in sexual selection, mate choice, courtship behaviour, colour, and parental care. Let’s talk science! 🐸🦔🐦‍⬛🦗
A smattering of images showing El in her work roles past and present. As well as her research work in aggressive behaviour and mating success in crickets and in polyandry and anti predator behaviour in amphibians, El has worked in research assistant roles working on riverine birds and on hedgehogs. She has also spent time working in ecology as an assistant and freelance ecologist, where she conducted great crested newt, bat, dormouse, and reptile surveys, as well as ECoW work. She also engages in teaching roles in both high schools and university settings, and is active in pursuing public engagement and outreach opportunities to talk about her science and conservation generally. If you are interested in behaviour, ecology, evolution, or conservation, she would love to hear from you!

Last month I presented my work on amphibian antipredator behaviour at #Behaviour2025 in Kolkata, India. I met so many cool people and potential future collaborators! Thanks to the organisers for the opportunity to present and to @asab.org and @britishecologicalsociety.org for funding my attendance!

Had a blast catching up with good friends and talking science last week at @qmul.bsky.social - my final Joint DTP Conference! Thanks to the organisers for doing such a brilliant job in spite of the tube strikes! @londonnercdtp.bsky.social

And obviously I’m sharing this *shamelessly*.

Thanks so much to everyone who attended my #Behaviour2025 talk on Wednesday - thank you for all the questions, advice, and expressions of interest. You were a fabulous audience! 🐸

The app apparently tells you if your talk was well-attended. What a world we live in! 🤯
Conference app generated talk advert for Eleanor’s Behaviour 2025 presentation. with “highly attended session” badge.

Also, this is the first conference that I am attending COMPLETELY on my own. If you see me - please do come and say hi! 😊

Super excited to be in Kolkata for #Behaviour2025! If you’ve ever wondered how machine learning and behaviour can help us conserve endangered species, come and see my talk at 11:58 on Wednesday 27th in Hall 6! 🐸

A very successful Adder Day 2025! The weather was almost too nice this year, the scaly fellas didn't hang around for long.

Had a fabulous time at #BES2024 in #Liverpool! Thank you to @britishecolsoc.bsky.social for the opportunity to present my work, chair one of the brilliant Behavioural Ecology symposia (all of which I attended and enjoyed immensely!), and network with other ecology nerds! Until next year! 🐸

Some lovely discussions at the @britishecolsoc.bsky.social #BES2024 poster event! Thank you to all who came to chat. Please keep in touch! Huge thank you to @petermoorefuller.bsky.social @infohackit.bsky.social for the introduction to the world of illustration and providing invaluable feedback! 🐸
