SUSPENDS BID FOR CA-07, ENDORSES PROGRESSIVE ALLY MAI VANG SACRAMENTO, Sept. 16, 2025 - When I launched this campaign, I believed California's 7th Congressional District deserved so much more than what it's been given for decades.
I believed this community needed a representative who would fight unapologetically for working people, for climate action, for reproductive freedom, for stricter gun control, for a democracy that serves all of us, and not just the wealthy and well-connected.
And for an end to the ongoing genocide in Gaza.
I stepped up to provide a bold, progressive voice in a race where no one else had. My path to this moment, shaped by lived experiences, injustice, and a deep sense of duty, left me no choice but to try.
I ran against an 80-year-old whose record reflects decades of alignment with corporate donors and special interests rather than the needs of the people she was elected to serve. I ran to be a representative who would meet with her constituents, listen to them, and fight alongside them, not hide from them.
I ran to tell the truth about the disconnected politics here and to call out the complicity that keeps them in place.
I still believe I'm a unicorn candidate. I am a fifth-generation Sacramentan and working-class renter shaped by this valley who left to move to Washington, D.C. and fight for a better healthcare system that fails so many while enriching others.
I've navigated through life experiences Congress lacks and too often ignores. Most people run for office because they can afford to. I ran because I couldn't afford not to.
The 7th Congressional District deserves more than inherited power and performative leadership. Politics should not be a career ladder or a family legacy. We need political courage.
Those on the bench who lack this courage to challenge an out-of-touch incumbent instead of putting your community first, you are choosing comfort over courage. I ran when it was hardest for me.
But-another brave and principled progressive entered this race, someone who shares my vision for a more just, more compassionate, more courageous future.
So I ask you to support Mai Vang.
She chose to run when it wasn't easy, and that alone sets her apart from most. That choice, rooted in courage and conviction, matters more than political connections ever will. It means she will be able to look her constituents in the eye.
I am suspending my campaign for California's 7th
Congressional District, but I remain deeply committed to the movement behind it, a movement for justice, for equity, and for a politics that puts people, not profits, at the center.
The people in power today are on the wrong side of history, in Sacramento and in DC. They are clinging to titles and seniority while the world burns and our communities suffer. They are beholden to donors and comfortable in systems that reward silence and punish truth-telling.
Change is coming.
Thank you to everyone who believed in me from the beginning.
To those who told me, "You are exactly who we need right now," your words sustained me. And they still do.
Stay tuned.

I’m not sure who lives in her house if anyone does when she’s not there. I drove by the other day when I was in the area and there was what looked like construction being done on it.

holy shit dude using a fake deployment for wildland fire crews from a fire that’s only 13% contained during peak western US fire season to detain multiple firefighters and remove the crews from the fire is a scale of evil & dangerous I can’t fully communicate to people not from wildfire regions

Holy shit:

Stateline spoke to nearly a dozen firefighters, agency staffers and contractors, who said that top officials assigned to the fire deployed the crews to a remote location under false pretenses so federal agents could check their immigration status.

From @sacbee.com: “Garcia encouraged Matsui to return with a more ‘forceful disposition’ and use the community to help pressure.”

This is going to turn into a Biden situation. She also has a 94yo husband. She wasn’t here for August recess as req’d until now; staff used old pics. Something’s wrong.
electericalee.bsky.social
Hi, Eric. I’m one of your constituents. Volunteers on the ground said she showed up, was told no, and left.

Waiting on Sac legislators/leaders to get together + ask Matsui to step down. Not retire, resign. She’s almost 82 + is unable to articulate the righteous anger we need.
electericalee.bsky.social
Maybe orgs who automatically endorse incumbents for who they are should ask what the Democrats’ strategy is to raise money now.
A tweet that reads finally, the democrats are running on money out of politics with another tweet that shows fundraising totals for the RNC at $84.3 million and the DNC at $13.9 million.
electericalee.bsky.social
Endorsing organizations need to ask the Democrats what their own fundraising strategy is before holding the grassroots challengers who recognize the issue to a higher standard.

Did a proof of life check for @dorismatsui.bsky.social this morning. I tried something different + asked when the last time she was in Sacramento was + they said, “Oh, let me check.”

She’s not here for August recess. I wish media would cover this. We have taxation w/out representation right now.
electericalee.bsky.social
@dorismatsui.bsky.social is doing the same. In fact, her team is covering for her by not only posting old photos of her to falsely portray her as working in the district as she should be right now, they’re slapping new logos on them for the event they’re sharing. bsky.app/profile/elec...

Her staff still will not confirm where she is. I have yet to hear back on at least a 2nd mtg request, something I know isn’t typical as someone who’s scheduled over 10k meetings w/Congress for work & health staffer still won’t respond when I ask for specifics on her refusal to support M4A.

I live in a Sacramento apartment owned by a Christian nonprofit so they don’t charge as much as vulture landlords who want to buy more boats.

They were even able to install a dog park, a pickle ball court, and a space for food trucks— without overcharging.

A better world is possible.

I, too, live in a rent-stabilized (not rent-controlled! same as Zohran!) apartment and my rent is a number so large that the only thing that would compel me to reveal it on this website would be suicidal ideation. without rent-stabilization it would be significantly higher! hope this helps!

STATEMENT ON REP. MATSUI'S REFUSAL TO FACE THE PEOPLE OF SACRAMENTO Democratic Challenger Demands
Immediate House Ethics Investigation into Rep. Matsui's Misrepresentation of Primary Residence and Deceptive Conduct
SACRAMENTO, August 15, 2025 - Today, Democratic congressional candidate Erica Lee, who is mounting a primary challenge in California's 7th District, formally called on the Chair of the House Ethics Committee to launch an immediate investigation into Rep. Doris Matsui's alleged misrepresentation of her primary residence, absence from Sacramento, and growing pattern of deception toward constituents.
Though Rep. Matsui continues to list Sacramento as her primary residence, mounting evidence - including public records, eyewitness accounts, and digital footprints - suggests she has never lived in California, instead spending the majority of her time in the Maryland home she shared with her first husband, Rep. Bob Matsui. Complaints have already been filed with the House Ethics Committee, citing concerns about violations of residency rules and potential misconduct.
In addition to reaching out to the House Ethics Committee, Lee this week contacted Rep. Zoe Lofgren, Chair of the California Democratic Congressional Delegation, and submitted direct evidence that Rep. Matsui and her staff have engaged in a deliberate effort to mislead the public - including the recycling of outdated photos on official social media accounts to falsely portray district engagement.
"If working class Americans skipped work the way Rep. Matsui has — especially during the August recess — they'd be fired," said Lee. "It's unacceptable that a sitting member of Congress can lie about where she lives, refuse to show up for her constituents, and still collect a paycheck."
On top of that, Rep. Matsui's official House website has disabled the ability for constituents to request meetings, and numerous Sacramento residents have reported that she has been completely absent from community events and town halls for months.
This morning, The Sacramento Bee's Editorial Board published a scathing opinion piece titled "Doris Matsui is ducking her district when it needs a public leader," highlighting the fact she is "too comfortable" and should have retired at the end of 2024. "Our issue with Matsui transcends her age. It's that she doesn't seem willing or able to change with the times. Her attitude is that she knows best, that only she can do this job right now, and everyone should just accept that."
Despite overwhelming evidence suggesting that a sitting congresswoman's primary residence is not in Sacramento, local leaders have chosen silence over accountability, as well. Their failure to speak out raises serious concerns about political favoritism and a disregard for the integrity of our democratic process. At a time when transparency and trust in our institutions are more important than ever, this silence is not just disappointing-it's unacceptable.
Evidence suggests that it has become increasingly clear that Rep. Matsui is skirting the constitutional requirement to reside within the state of the district she claims to represent. If a home in Maryland is her actual primary residence-hundreds of miles from the constituents of California's 7th District— she would not only be disregarding the spirit of the U.S.
Constitution, but also betraying the trust of the voters who expect their representative to live among them, understand their daily realities, and be present in their community. This would raise serious questions about her legitimacy to serve and her commitment to those she was elected to represent.
Lee is urging Rep. Michael Guest, Chair of the House Committee on Ethics, to open a full investigation into Rep.
Matsui's conduct - including her actual place of residence, and the possible misuse of government resources and intentional obstruction of constituent access.
"Democracy doesn't work when elected officials lie, hide, and run from the people they're supposed to represent," Lee concluded. "Sacramento deserves better — and it's time for accountability."

Matsui’s staff took a photo from a few months ago and slapped a new logo on it that says “Safe + Sound” to imply she’s here in the district but when you call her office, they feign ignorance as to where she’s at. That’s abnormal.

I will call every local elected out who promised to not challenge her in the hopes she would endorse them. I have names.

It shouldn’t have taken a working class renter with no power to do what any of them should have done years ago in the interest of their careers. Cowards.
