#kingdomhearts Ansem the Wise pissing me off so bad in Kh3 I went on a whole rant of which I am reposting here
It kills me how much harm Ansem the Wise causes in his search for the most perfect morally pure way to save the day. He's obsessed with the perfect hero, which is why it was so easy for Xehanort to play him, and that obsession often leads to him harming everyone in his life-- his coworkers, his friends, and the young people who looked up to him. I was thinking about this and his tendency to rely on younger people to do his dirty work for him and how he's very manipulative and cold to them unless they are the correct amount of pristine, otherwise they're like livestock, or soldiers sent off to die. The worst part is he usually does it to kids who recently were traumatized, experienced a loss, or got out of a bad situation, and Ansem is so caught up in his own hubris that he hurts the most vulnerable people, literal children, because he views them as tainted--they're not worthy of saving because they're not pure, and whether that be because they've become "impure" via exposure to darkness or done morally impure things because of their abuse, they are all viewed as pawns, because Ansem's morality is so rigid he cannot concieve of an imperfect victim. Namine is artificial and a *witch*, her love for sora isn't real, nor is her bond with Riku, because she only formed them became she's an emotionless pawn. Riku fell to the darkness once and is open about how it could happen again, so he's impure and volitle. Ienzo doesn't have a heart, and Ansem could never take back a child who could not feel emotions-- it would trick and manipulate him by feigning love, so it belongs with those who will mold his mind into that of a villian. Roxas is dangerous in every way, a human weapon with no soul that drives heartless husks mad with the faint murmurs of emotion he unearths, and his constant desire to retain his connections is merely a farce. They are tainted to him because they are not pure virgin snow untainted by darkness, so they're most valuable as cannon fodder. Nothing would be lost if they were gone. He never truly acknowledges that he's just as much of an abuser as the kid's original tormentors. Because wasn't Riku just a vessel to him, just like with his version of Ansem? Namine, juat an isolated girl getting verbally abused and forced to lurk in the shadows like a dirty secret? Ienzo all alone with cruel adults who no longer have the inclination to take care of him, abandoned for the second time in his short life? Roxas, caught up in a plan that has no regard for his autonomy when all he wants is to be with his loved ones? But oh, it's *noble*. It's for the *light.* What purpose does an impure hero have, anyway? True light is the only hope anyone has in this world. You must follow only the light-- if the dark calls to you, you must have been listening. You could make. Many comparisons to various kinds of abuse with this lens, but beyond that it's so compelling to see a perfect example of how blinding light causes as much pain as darkness. Ansem is so obsessed with that which is unsullied that he hurts just like those he views himself better than, and dooms himself and countless others on the principle of "innocence". You'd think he would realize one day how darkness and strife in people's lives can give them the strength to fight for what's right, but Ansem is notoriously rigid in his worldview
