Like Sisyphus eternally pushing his boulder uphill, CTCF is depicted pushing a nucleosome, the fundamental unit of chromatin, up a hill. CTCF's constant effort causes the nucleosome to “slide” along the DNA, unwrapping at one end while wrapping at the other.
