It is interesting a question (comment?) says Australia is disconnected from this kind of work. Actually, there are many artists and organisations working at the intersection of arts, science and technology: ANAT www.anat.org.au, Science Gallery Melbourne, melbourne.sciencegallery.com, #FACT2026
ANAT expedites experimentation and innovation across art, science and technology
ANAT is a global leader in brokering opportunities for artists to work with science and technology partners. We understand collaboration, research and experimentation are the bedrock of innovation.

It's great that the Toolkit for Qualitative Audience Engagement is interested in and encouraging understanding, consideration and capture of informal data. As an arts marketing consultant I tell organisations often that their public face staff are a crucial source of data. Include them! #FACT2026

Caitlin McGrane and Jacina Leong: GLAMs are collecting formal and informal data about audiences through feedback surveys, evaluation processes, etc as well as chats with front of house (FOH) staff, observations on how and where people linger, etc. #FACT2026

I totally agree that people, time and expertise are needed for any arts digital project (sexy or unsexy!) It is interesting to reflect though that marketing of AI leans heavily into the idea that it can overcome those same barriers with efficiently. We must keep an eye on the hype cycles. #FACT2026

I think the fact that we need a term called 'middleware' to explain software that bridges two or more software systems speaks volumes about the IT realities for so many GLAMs! #FACT2026

OMG totally, George! Too many examples! #FACT2026
Yes and we have so many examples of poor partnerships where cultural organisations give away their value for $$$. How do we not compromise who we are as organisations when working with others? Mining money is Australia is a good example.

Hmmm. Yes there are opportunities for other sectors to learn from us, but we don’t have capacity to attend their conferences and sympathise with their vulnerabilities. We need to strengthen our own resilience, gain more active understandings of our policy and political landscape, and act. #FACT2026

There's a lot of discussion about reframing problems as opportunities and partnering with unexpected industries. Of course, an important part of that is ensuring values alignment. How many GLAMs and arts organisations have an ethical sponsorship policy? #FACT2026
