It was great to welcome the Chief Secretary to the Treasury, James Murray to Milton Keynes and host the Major Projects Association for their annual conference.

As a city Milton Keynes shows the potential and possibility of place-based infrastructure projects.

I’m so pleased that this Labour Government has recognised how important young people are to our local communities and has plans to lower the voting age to 16.

Young people are not just the leaders of tomorrow, they’re shaping today.

The annual Milton Keynes Youth Summit is an opportunity for young people from schools across the city to come together to discuss the role of young people in our local communities and take part in skills workshops.

This month is Milton Keynes City of Codes and Light Festival 2025 – a celebration of where science meets art, organised by Milton Keynes Islamic Arts and Culture.

I had the opportunity this weekend to see the breathtaking “Mind and Matter” projection at the Milton Keynes Central Library.

There will be further events later in October including STEAM workshops for young people and theatre performances so do get involved and celebrate the wonderful art and culture we boast in our city!

This was followed by the lantern parade through our city – the lanterns were created by our amazing local schools and were based on stars and constellations.

I’m sure in a few years' time we’ll see many of these students playing important roles in our politics!

What a lovely morning spent holding a Q&A with Sixth Form students from St Pauls Catholic School.

It was great to answer such a range of questions including about my background in politics and the difference between the Candian political landscape and the British political landscape.

It was great to read the British Dyslexia Associations’ new report which provides an insight into the experiences of young people with dyslexia in the education system. We must ensure that all young people with dyslexia are able to access the support that means education works for them.

This week is Dyslexia Awareness Week, and the theme is “Raise the Volume” - a time to amplify the experiences of those navigating dyslexia and understand how the best support can be provided and accessed so that no one ever feels alone.

Antisemitism, hatred and violence will never be tolerated in our city or anywhere else.

We must see a lasting and stable peace in the Middle East, one that includes: a ceasefire, the release of the hostages, recognition of the rights of Palestinians and Israelis, and one that puts an end to the atrocities we have witnessed.

My thoughts are with all those affected and the families of those who are still held being held hostage. For them this nightmare is ongoing.

Today I’ve been remembering the utterly horrendous terror attack that occurred on the 7th of October 2023 - the worst attack on Jewish people since the Holocaust.

It is vital that we translate the campaigns of organisations such as White Ribbon, which calls on men and boys to stand up to VAWG, into the online space – We must tackle violence against women and girls in all forms, including when it’s behind a phone screen.

What's better than speaking at the Open University once in a week? Speaking there twice!

It was great to have the opportunity during Milton Keynes Tech Week to speak on the topic of building safer digital futures especially for women and girls.

It was an afternoon spent celebrating everything that makes Milton Keynes so special from our diaspora of cultures to our incredible poets and musicians.

As well as this incredible piece of art, there are new lawns and plants to encourage biodiversity in the area!

Many will be aware that Station Square has been undergoing a transformation – a new stunning art piece funded by growth that will welcome millions of visitors to our city every year.

It was amazing to see the unveiling of Yinka Iloris art at Station Square: “Walk With Your Dreams”.

I will continue to use my voice in Milton Keynes and Parliament to advocate for the highest quality support for those facing domestic abuse and their families as well as survivors – everyone deserves to feel safe.
emily4mk.bsky.social
What a powerful afternoon spent with USDAW and MK ACT at their domestic abuse awareness event held in the Kingston Shopping Centre.

It was great to speak to amazing union reps from USDAW and some of the incredible team at MK ACT who were raising awareness of their Domestic Abuse Champions network

With the British Standards Industry here in Milton Keynes we should strive towards the best possible standards and safety for AI.
emily4mk.bsky.social
It's always a privilege to speak at our incredible Open University especially when it was Milton Keynes Tech Week!

I had the opportunity to speak on AI and the importance of safety and regulation in the sector. Standards do not come at the cost of innovation and growth.

BucksVision hold sessions in the Central Milton Keynes Library to support those who want to gain confidence in the technology and the devices they offer.

The work that BucksVision and their volunteers do for communities in Milton Keynes and Buckinghamshire is so important.
