Just finished watching all of The Boys. Marvel made me avoid anything superhero for a long while but hawt damn was that an insane & good show.

The number of kinks & fetishes of characters just casually thrown in, not standing out because of the general crazyness, was lovely.

I find there is a compounding sadness. Not only are they glued to screens, what they are seeing & consuming on those screens can be anything, & kids can easily navigate the online spaces they are granted access to. The harm being done through unrestricted access to propaganda & marketing is immense.

Be internet literate! Education is the enemy of fascism; they want a cowed, dumb & obedient populace. Fascism always attacks education & history as it rises.

People can instinctively feel that it’s wrong, education allows you to put those feelings into words, to understand & explain why its wrong.

I often hear the argument “but why would anyone care about me liking a cat post or whatever”. Genuinely ask that question, why do they care? What can they do with your data?

Your history can be purchased & filtered through, adding you to lists for marketing, government searches & all sorts of stuff

What we are seeing isn’t so much new, companies have always detested porn & minorities, the very people who built their spaces & populated them with a general collection of what humanity is.

What we are seeing is a bold openness in their hostilities that they at least attempted to hide previously.

When I see people signing up for protests, or posting violent thoughts online I just cringe. Your entitled to your thoughts, but you are making a paper trail that is logged & visible by those who own these platforms.

As we have seen, good people don’t own these platforms, think & be cautious.

The internet of communal chats & spaces feels like it’s crumbling, or at least the freedom where folks felt safe to post nsfw & queer content feels more restrictive.

I grew up in the early internet & it was always a space fraught with danger. I feel a sense of naivety seeped in over many years.

…not just grant them free reign into any deep & monstrous corner that lies online.

The internet was never safe for kids, it’s just not safe in general. Trying to make it kid friendly is literally insane. What we need is more internet literacy & caution. We don’t own it, your data can be accessed.

Growing up we basically had reverse internet at home. My parents restricted everything & only allowed access to certain sites, and frankly that was smart.

I see a child on the train just openly browsing twitter, unrestricted & honestly….thats horrible. People need to restrict their kids access…

“I don’t care if they have my data” & a general apathy towards internet security seems to have taken hold in folks minds.

It’s never been safe, I knew that simply from torrenting & early chat communities. Guard yourself & your data; don’t presume there is security or that your info is secret.
