I will die a Tron defender even if everything else that bears the name "Tron" is at best not worth your time.

"It was 1982, they didn't have the technology to make it look realistic."

In 1982 if you wanted something to look realistic in a film, you filmed something real: A person, a miniature, a matte painting.

For Tron they came up with a painstaking technique that made very unreal looking images and […]

The whole point of the computer world of Tron is that it is beautiful but almost utterly alien to anything we know. Humans write programs to interact with that world, and thus the programs are one of the only things familiar to us.

They kind of handwave all of old Tron away with "Then we got […]

The moment in Tron: Legacy when Sam Flynn finds himself in the computer world and a Recognizer is hovering over him and he's getting blown around by the wind off of it, I was like, "Oh, they don't get it at all."
A Bluesky post from user DIO (@danielirizarri.bsky.social) which states, "I think what's impressive about TRON is that, visually, it's still so much more interesting than any of it's sequels. It's crazy that they tried update this digital world by making it as 'realistically rendered' as possible. It's a complete misunderstanding of the original's charm." with a series of iconic shots from Tron (1982) showing the abstract geometry and color of the computer world.

The only thing I can think of is Nier: Automata but surely there's been something more recent than that. Granted, I don't play a whole lot of recent video games these days.

What is the most recent video game with a soundtrack you want to get and listen to separately?

16 years seems like a long time between The Protomen putting out Act II and Act III, but only two Megaman games have come out in that time so maybe it's not so bad.

This isn't a bad thing, I just had this thought when I saw someone upset that a game journalist didn't like a specific genre and thus was ignoring it.

A lot of Games Journalists are actually Games Opinion Columnists.

"Those black and yellow plastic storage bins are super cheap and everywhere, I'll just pack them in those, easy peasy."

48. It will take 48 bins to hold that many books.

Me, doing some back of the envelope estimates of how much space 3,400 books take up:

Given the amount of hackers that love the Dreamcast I'm surprised nobody has come up with a better solution to getting it online than "plug a Dreamcast modem into a USB modem + Raspberry Pi"

If you're already having the Raspberry Pi pretend to be an ISP, why not skip the middleman and have the […]

It’s time we, as a nation, come together and finally demand accountability from the Japanese government for the unspeakable crimes committed by Sonic the Hedgehog. :neocat_pensive:

A screenshot from an old anime that looks grainy as it was taken from a VHS. It shows a boy playing ping pong while a girl glows white in the corner. The subtitles read, Genocide Sonic!

@stuartgipp.bsky.social I was once a big Borderlands 1 sicko and this has unlocked long dormant memories in me. This was the exact same DLC path I traced all those years ago. Disappointment, then mild enjoyment.

Like, you can tell a lot about the boy as a character from this design, but what is most obvious is how much more the artist likes the girl.

I love this kind of "I guess a guy is there too" character design.
The two leads of A Silent Voice, Shōya Ishida and Shōko Nishimiya. The camera is looking down on them standing on a balcony over a Koi pond, framed by cherry blossoms. Shōko is a cute schoolgirl with long detailed shiny auburn hair, big amber eyes, a blue blazer, and light blue skirt. She's posing with her hands clasped and a pleading look directed to the viewer. Shōya is a tall schoolboy in a rumpled brown suit with spiky matte hair. He looks like he just crawled out of a dumpster and desperately wants to crawl back in.

They should let Owen Dennis make another cartoon.

@zachweinersmith.bsky.social Apparently each video costs OpenAI $5 to generate, which makes me want to sign up just to waste as much of their money as possible.
