Happy that I have finally published this work at @epljournal.bsky.social which calculates the distribution of pandemic extinction times using only NPIs (yes lockdowns) & predicts that the covid pandemic could have been eliminated in a time of order months! iopscience.iop.org/article/10.1...

We can use lockdowns to limit transmission and ensure that number of infections of a pandemic decline: the strength of the lockdown can be encapsulated by the effective reproductive number of the virus — which must be less than one and the closer to zero the stronger the lockdown. The plot shows the calculated extinction time of the covid pandemic vs the effective reproductive number. On the left is the prediction for the United Kingdom, which for Re=0.4 predicts the pandemic would die out after 100 to 150 days. On the right is the prediction for the globe, which predicts global extinction in less than 200 days for Re=0.4.
