I love the Sheldrake-Vernon Dialogues. I will say more about this particular one later; but I highly recommend it.

N.B.: Husserl was right before the continental and analytic distinction and his philosophy has characteristics of both of these expressions. Edward Baring shows how “Continental” philosophy was philosophy in Europe receiving and responding to phenomenology and its embrace by Catholic theologians.

Phenomenology Friday

Story: I have a friend who every time I talk to him about phenomenology he yells “yeah, Habermas!” at me as if Habermas is a phenomenologist. I’ve told him more than once Habermas isn’t a phenomenologist; but he just can’t ever remember that.
Bless his heart.

On rejecting the man(child)-cave/drinking buddy lounge: in truth, one should instead have an exuberant salon for receiving friends & family, a refined study for the life of the mind, a formidable shop for building and crafting, a quaint dining area, and a well-stocked toy room for the kids!

New on my blog: I posted a paper I wrote earlier this year, “Merleau-Ponty’s Ontology of Sense and Non-Sense.” I’m pretty proud of it and plan to include it in a future edition of my book. It talks a little about Hegel; that’s an area I’m still planning on diving into further on a future blog post.
