To be fair the first three happen quite often.

France... Too many governments...
Germany... Remilitarizing...
Russia... Losing offensive war to third rate power...
Fascism... On the rise...

Must be... 1939...

Y’all need to see this sign.
A sign sticking out from a building. Text reads: FAMO Barber Shop & Beauty Spa 773-887-3627 NAIL TECH ON DUTY. The sign imagery is a play on the White Sox batterman logo.

Civil wars are often won or lost before they are even started, or don't happen at all because the outcome would be clear from the start. So even if civil conflict is extraordinarily unlikely, we should all prepare for it.

It's also notable that there is no Constitutional basis for interfering with interstate commerce, so whatever blue states do will be immediately rendered legally moot. This is the kind of thing that you'd think about in a civil war context and that's it.

Maximizing leverage, by the way, is intended to prevent the worst case scenario by making it incredibly costly for Republicans to pull off.
erichluepke.bsky.social
It's important for Dems to create for themselves maximum leverage for the worst case scenario, IMO that involves more mitigating the sort of risk like military deployments or the decapitation of their state government by said military deployment.

Gaming this out, Dems can halt pacific trade (say by shutting down the ports) forcing the trade to re-route to the East Coast, where Rs have plenty of ports. Logistics nightmare but hardly a stranglehold.

Meanwhile Trump can turn off water to like half of California? Good game, well played.

The Dem logic as I've heard it is that we learned Democracy / Rights don't sell well at the polls (compelling IMO, it lost twice) and therefore they should not be talking points.

I could see that for people in competitive elections, but everyone else should know they are on a sinking ship!

The electricity argument is weak IMO. People absolutely experienced hardship when they couldn't afford lamp oil or candles, they couldn't read at night. Living a simpler life without such a luxury was always possible, but it is easier now than it ever has been. The rest is okay.

Their command is "everyone remain calm" and that will be their final command, or at least the last one we free people will hear. And let them command! They one day will be shocked, upset, disgusted by the truth, and that will be our calm.

Huh: TikTok took down my 8-second video featuring this image of Debbie Brockman — the news producer just detained by Trump’s CBP agents — saying it violates the “joy of TikTok”

I was impressed by their delegation in the 2020 remote DNC.

I think a "brief" detention would do?

I think we should start lobbying for Pacific Territorial Statehood. Would be a total mess of a campaign given the islands are separated by thousands of miles.

I was told their country struggled with development in part because they spent so much on making a self-sufficient arms industry b/c they didn't want to rely on the Soviets or NATO.

I was quite impressed by Yugo history, the efficacy of their resistance against the Nazis was second to none. Giving the finger to Stalin is also a historical W.

It's the same reason why I would never support the president mailing everyone a free copy of their book, the Hitler/Mao special, just a total defilement of the state.
erichluepke.bsky.social
It's disgusting, I hate it, and I will not live in a country like that! Presidents who do this should be tried for treason.

A billion dollars is the socio-political equivalent of a loose nuke, and we should work as ruthlessly and diligently to prevent the acquisition of the former as we do the latter.

“The problem with billionaires isn’t that they’re hoarding money that would otherwise pay for a Scandinavian social utopia. It’s that their money has become a source of wildly distorted political power that allows a few men with extremist views to wreak havoc on the rest of us.”

If the reason they don't write articles about Communists is because they are too dangerous to the American system, that is not a valid reason, they are platforming a theocrat! They might as well do a think piece about Al Qaeda!
erichluepke.bsky.social
I know of some Communists who they could write a similar article about but they never make it in the paper! It's probably a symptom of "nobody important agrees with them," which is really a self fulfilling prophecy when you think about it. If you're platforming him, talk about the Communists!

Part of the reason why Trump doesn't target New York City I think is that he actually lived there and knows full well it's not a hellhole, maybe he has some special attachment. Either way it's weird he's targeted LA and Chicago but left out NYC.
