I made the better, but harder, decision the other day, and both my therapist and I made sure to give that decision it's rightful praise.

It's OK to have pride. You should praise your own growth.

Also, learning is fucking dope. We all come from ignorance, so let no one shame you for it.

One of my favourite communities is the video game speedrunning community. Like, I've seen world record holders teaching their techniques to people coming for the record. That, to me, is the epitome of "let us all raise each other up".

Joy is not a finite resource.

"how little awareness of what's going on the majority of people in the general public have"

The majority of people in the general public are not online the way people like us are.

The majority of people in the general public only have their TVs and radios set to news, and they fully trust it.

The Family Stone, for me, was an "ex girlfriend" movie, so I don't think I ever gave it a fair shake.

That said, as much as I disliked it (STONE IS A NAME BUT ALSO A RING IT'S A PLAY ON WORDS), Keaton gave her all.

Her dialogue with Martin Short here is pretty amazing:

I'm surprisingly 100% on board with this. My friend's younger sister was fooled in '16, and though I still side-eye her sometimes, we've all moved on.

I broke up a 20y friendship for the '24 vote. You don't get to vote for the "kill my family" party and still reap the benefits of knowing who I am.

Or online.

Or at school, normally.

I can't do a lot, in terms of quantity, so I tend to try helping my school librarian friends any time they need it.

So does the one for Tron, and Tron: Ares.

Tron was done by Wendy Carlos, and if you don't know about her, she's a fucking trans pioneer. Check out her work with Weird Al, seriously.

Ares was NIN, and Trent + Atticus is OST fucking magic. Their "Mutant Mayhem" OST was dope.

I can go on for days why streaming is, for the most part, objectively worse, but I'll end it with this.

I would rather buy TLOU on physical media, than rent HBO, because then I also know where my money is actually going. Instead of, like, JKunt and her new HP show.

No one needs the choice paralysis that most streaming services offer. How much of a service's catalogue do you honestly engage with, and how often? I bet if you actually mapped it out for a few months, you'll see it.

You pay for ease, and to not think about it.

Hard disagree, but it comes down to preference.

Firstly, I'll never be ok with the "perma-rent" model of anything. Miss me with that till the heat death of the sun. On a long enough timeline, which is not very long, it will not save you money.

Secondly, you're renting convenience, not media.

Online vs Offline are both just as real.

People gravitate toward online, mostly because you can skirt consequence easier.

To be fair, that is because education is being more gutted, and corrupted, by the moment.

Are the bible thumping 2A crazies also illiterates who've never read either document? Of course. But why? Because their ability to learn has been EXPLICITLY stopped in its tracks.

Feature, not bug.

"Make greed a capital offense"

Most of those people would consider that cognitive dissonance, since greed is what normally creates capital.

And when someone absolutely geeks out about their favourite media, I feel it 100%. I've got a favourite media. You're an expert in yours? That's fucking dope, tell me about it.

I do discography deep dives. Like, Earth's core deep. It's tough to find my fellow nerds, but my feelers are out.

Scru going in on Drake the last few days has been hilarious.

Anyway, as a music nerd who loves empty calorie reaction vids, I agree with you about Jean. It's like Kardavox Academy or Charismatic Voice; they're not "reacting", so much as they're doing analysis of the vocals and vocal techniques.

You know, I've never heard a Mitzi Shore joke. I'm still waiting to see a killer set from her.

And yeah, I know folks'll say "the funniest thing to ever come out of Mitzi Shore was Paulie", which is both an amusing and damning indictment.

But seriously, tell me one of Mitzi's jokes.

This is America's abject hatred for children on display. Why no PJ parties for adults? Because it's for kids.

When you start to notice the disdain for children's anything, it gets unnerving.

"Who cares if the movie's bad, it's just for kids"

"It's kid's food"

"... children's music?"

I've met addicts that are like this. The people that do coke so that they don't pass out from the booze. The people who call vomiting "making room for more".

But money addiction is all right in America. Not shopping or gambling addiction, because that's spending.

Smaug is the ideal.

Oh no. They know they're burnt out and miserable. They're trying to convince YOU that they're not, so that whatever they're selling is finally worth being this burnt out and miserable.

And some people live their lives with anxiety so bad, that everything that happens all of a sudden gets that boss music playing in the background.
erichwanh.bsky.social
Because I have my own version of that, I always love seeing it in others. Especially when you can catch a piece of media history while it was happening, like seeing the QL alt ending on film for the first time. I vaguely remember you on a podcast when that was happening.
