Dit weekend in NRC fascinerend stuk over Europa in vroege middeleeuwen. Nationalistische geschiedschrijving heeft ons beeld sterk gekleurd. Archeoloog Frans Theuws van UL laat zien dat er nauwe banden waren en dus dat indeling in netjes gescheiden volkeren een mythe was. www.nrc.nl/nieuws/2026/...

Mee eens. Je kunt je wel afvragen of de partijfusie positief uitpakt. Anders had PvdA aan regering kunnen deelnemen. Bovendien 2 lijsttrekkers bij debatten + talkshows, verhoogt zichtbaarheid en kans op momentum voor één van beide. (Kortzichtige) kiezers willen duidelijkheid qua idealen en beleid.

Kan de VVD verder met de afbraak van de publieke sector. Met steun van techbro John de Mol en andere miljonairs kan de schuld voor eventuele problemen op asielzoekers en andere vreemdelingen worden afgeschoven. Meer van hetzelfde, terwijl de wereld in brand staat.
Met de VVD erbij zal het wel weer uitdraaien op verdere afbraak van de publieke sector. De kettingzaag erin. In een tijd van grote gropolitieke instabiliteit liever nieuw politiek experiment dan die verschrikkelijke GL-PvdA erbij.
Zolang democratische controle van universiteiten via raden en eventueel verkiezing van universiteitsbestuur niet goed geregeld is, lijkt me dit ten sterkste af te raden en blijven woo verzoeken onmisbaar om misstanden bloot te leggen.

De woordkeuze in de NRC over Maduro's kidnapping is niet erg gelukkig ('succes' 'trofee'), maar ter verdediging van de auteur. Martijn de Waal is een fantastische correspondent, eerst in Spanje, tegenwoordig VS en Latijns Amerika. Hij geeft nu vooral goed inzicht in implicaties in Venezuela zelf.
Hij is geen expert in internationaal recht, maar schrijft geweldige reportages over hoe beleid gemaakt in hoofdsteden uitpakt, bijvoorbeeld in de regio.
