RFK JR: There are many other confirmations -- there are two studies that show children who are circumcised early have double the rate of autism. It’s highly likely because they are given Tylenol

Less than random: a Trump loyalist who's put his name on very big buildings (whole colleges) at Yale, MIT, and this month, Oxford. Still smarts over his teenage rejection by Harvard:

The tragedy for the country is that you have to be unhinged to be a Republican and resist Trump

One of the things that's terrifying about what's happening now is the number of Republicans who won't stand up to Trump because they're cowards who are terrified of backlash. MGT strikes me as just unhinged enough to not be sensitive to that, which turns out to be a liability for them.

Marjorie Taylor Greene on CNN (!): "I'm getting phone calls from people that are saying if the ACA tax credits expire, they aren't gonna be able to have health insurance. They're going to have to drop it."

Millennials are young! How did this happen?

Working for Drew Faust when she was Harvard Prez, I heard her say this was the first uncomfortable lesson she learned: that unlike the scholar she'd been, as president her job would now require her to say the same thing over and over.

During Nobel week, when US-based research scientists including several immigrants are winning the prizes.
ericweinberger.bsky.social
Much of this piece is (rightly) about lack of solidarity among the appeasing university leaders, and yet Nobel week is proving to be a good opportunity to fight back: 4 laureates from UC alone.

One could say: Trump wants his peace prize while stopping research that wins this country real Nobels.

Sometimes you have to take writers off the beat. After 5 or 6 of these articles over months with nothing breaking the way they've suggested, these three Timesmen need replacing.

Nothing shows the dangerous tendency to normalize authoritarianism like the New York Times coverage of the extortion of Harvard. One could read this article and think it is about a free agent inking a contract with the Yankees. www.nytimes.com/2025/10/09/u...

Nobel week is proving to be a good opportunity for higher ed to fight back against Trump's attacks. 4 laureates from UC alone, after he tried docking UCLA $500 mn in research funds.

Amazing the shit that still comes out of his mouth - you'd think it was all out by now.

Trump: "I don't know what could be worse than Portland. You don't even have stores anymore. They don't even put glass up. They put plywood on their windows."

I saw it online. I didn't realize it was page 1 in print. Above the fold.

Shocked, just shocked, by this important scoop on front page of today's NYT. /s/

Based on report that came out ... nine months ago

And behavior long predating that

("Skip a class? Perish the thought!!" Says anyone who ever worked on a college newspaper, which covers a lot of people in the media.)
NYT front page headline: "Harvard Finds Skipping Class Part of Culture."

Wonder if Mormons make it into the book. From the NYT yesterday:

A year ago, one thing we weren't discussing weeks before Election Day was how many large US cities a future President Trump would be sending the National Guard to for no reason at all.
