Joseph McNeil, one of four North Carolina A&T students who sat in at a Woolworth lunch counter in Greensboro, North Carolina on April 20, 1960, died today at the age of 83. The next day the students were joined by others, involving over 1000 by the fifth day. The counter was soon desegregated.

The rainbow crosswalk outside the Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Florida memorializing the 49 people murdered there in 2016, was painted over Wednesday by the Florida Dept of Transportation. Hours later, people took chalk to the crosswalk to restore its rainbow colors.

Shannon Joslin, a ranger at Yosemite National Park, was fired August 12 for participating in the hanging of a transgender flag on El Capitan May 20. There was no policy prohibiting the display of flags on El Capitan when Joslin and their team hung the flag.
