They had a fight shortly before his fateful trip to Ethiopia, and he died with her none the wiser but devastated to be told (by Bruce) that he died in an accident

And once Jason was adopted, well Lillianne’s mom, August Vale, shortly found herself in the job of a lifetime. Secretary to Bruce Wayne in Wayne Enterprises. This kept Lil in Jason’s orbit, even to the gala’s, a friendship for the ages.
